Thank you for your advice, though some clarifications:
I'm only looking for the most efficient short-term way to eat up a few waves of cavalry. 16k ATs would be great - but for the foreseeable future anything I build will be wiped out overnight.
As I mentioned, tons of attacks. But many of the attackers aren't all that big, and if I killed some of their cavalry waves by surprise-opening my gates, they might stop attacking because they can afford 5 waves of 1k cav a time, but not 5 waves of 5k. (Or for some they could do 5 waves of 5k, but not 5 waves of 25k). So if I can stop them from attacking altogether, or force them to do one wave at a time rather than 5-10, or even make them switch to slow-moving infantry, it would be a fantastic help.
So for wall defenses, I'm more interested in, for example, whether while I'm online I should keep a constant queue of 5-10 abatis to set the range.
And for troops.. if there's any alternative, I don't want to sacrifice huge numbers of warriors.
Exercise tells me 1000 ballistas plus 1 warrior will kill them all and I'll just lose the warrior. Mostly I'm interested in something like -that-. But I'd like to know if that exercise bears any relation to real game mechanics before I spend two days making all of them and then lose them.
