No fancy graphic here, just some thoughts... much discussion has been happening on server N1 about how to make the game better, keep people from going inactive and of course our desperate yearning for a server merger. We even had a meeting with the hosts of most of the top alliances... this got me thinking.... This idea would pertain to any future server mergers...
When the original servers were merged the map size was doubled, from 400 x 400 to 800 x800 with 16 individual stats in both. Prior to the mergers many alliances had their own state and there was balance and good healthy competition. Then when multiple servers were sandwiched together, the balance was broken. Strong active alliances all shrived for the same state creating an initial spike in activity and likely people spending $$.
But as the new merged servers evolved many alliance found that a 200x200 mile state is too large to effective defend on their own, this encouraged partnerships with other alliances or large family groups to be born and mass declaration on a single alliance to become common. The result of which many players have consider bullying. This bullying is IMO the leading cause of many players quitting the game sooner than they other wise would have. No one enjoys around the clock bullying with odds of 5:1 or greater.
So to finally come to my point. What would Evony think of, for the next server mergers, creating a new map layout. States that are 150x150 making it possible for a single alliance to attempt to claim their lands and also increase or decrease the over all map size from 800 x 800 (4 states by 4 states, 16 states) to 750 x 750 (5 states by 5 states, 25 states) or 900 x 900 (6 states by 6 states, 36 states).
I think this would give alliances a real sense of ownership of their states and would discourage some of the bullying that is found do to the massive land sizes needing to be protected and limited alliance size used to protect it.
