It was still the age of empires. Territories were a necessary component to being the strongest. Armies are built to conquer after all.

But do life of people really worth some territory especially since about 60,000,000 people died in WWII territory would have been like 50 people for 1 square meter.....

My opinion of life differs from the norm. I would say life eventually withers away so murder doesn't bother me as much as it would any of you. Of course, I'd be for the murder of the murderer... I'm getting offtopic.
I really can't answer that question. I'm not sure if anyone can answer it for everyone. All I can say is that we have killed for worse. War... war never changes.
War is Hell now ...and back then even more....My Great grandfather has died in war and we only found his grave about 2 years ago....and my grandfather was at war...for over 30 years he had the same nightmares of what he saw in war..... and he was only a truck/tank driver.....

The original purpose of the thread was to celebrate the end of the war in Europe. THE END. No mentioned anything about their political views of the countries involved until you started bashing every country involved in the war. I never said anyone was 'good', I simply mentioned at one point that, regardless of whatever else they may have done, the Soviet Union deserves some credit for participating in the one particular thing this thread was about: ending WWII (still talking about the European front here, of course). Yes, I'm aware that Nazis still exist, I've met some personally. The war, or at least the European front, was started by a government run by Nazis. These same government officials orchestrated the deaths of some 6 million-plus innocent people in addition to those who died in the war. While I suppose one could make an arguement that Neo-Nazis arn't like Hitler and his buddies (it would have to be a VERY convincing arguement), you can't deny that the men in power at the time, who happened to all be Nazis, started it all. Therefore, most sane people would be glad that the war is over. It doesnt matter that the winning side was not made of perfect, shining examples of virtue. They helped end the war and the slaughter of millions, and that is cause for remembrance. Which was the whole point of this, until you came in.
"I'm not crazy, OK? I'm totally, completely sane.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go blow up this dead body."

Well to be honest, why not add Australia to the list? They lost more troops. Same with India, South Africa and the other British colonies. Belgium lost alot too, we were swarmed by Germans, and was there anyone to help us at the time? No. Many died because no one cared for Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Luxembourg and Denmark. Deal with it.
Well I should have added pretty much all countries but that was going to take too long so i just out "etc"....
