Want to make him not want to have you as a colony? Use strategems against him constantly, drop all production to 0 and move all troops out of the city. Once he realizes he's getting the raw end of the deal, he won't be laughing any more. He only thinks its funny because he gets to screw you over.

Reinforced troops by the colonizing player do not fight for that player. You can tell by simply withdrawing the troops that started the colonization attempt and reinforcing troops into the city. When the second battle starts, the reinforcements will not fight, and the colonizer will lose. Reinforcements are to help defend the city being reinforced, and the player who controls the city being colonized can send the reinforcements home as they are in their embassy.

So, at no time will troops reinforced by the suzerain actually fight for the suzerain against the city they colonized, but for the city they colonized if they manage to successfully colonize the city.

But....the eternal ray of sunshine REALLY wanted to see you, so I helped brighten your day by removing the city from around you! ^.^
