    Default wierd (unexpected) battle outcome

with a compact defense in play, and the attacking forces landing on the city, does it make sense that the archer towers will fall before anything else?

This is the battle report for the first hit.

just doesnt make sense to me. There are quite a few other hits that took place, and in every one of them the compact defense seems to fail. All of the hits first take out ATs, then they start chewing through the archers. Finally they started taking out the layers around the archers.

Any explanation to this, or possible explanations?

    Thanks

    very funny one.

I'd have expected it to clear ur cav, phracts, some pikes n some swords (nice number of swords )

btw, re hiding ur coords, you get those options if u do a google login on evonyurl.com to disguise the coordinates

That's exactly what should happen. Archers prioritize ranged units and as in a compact defence every unit is within range of the archers they will will therefore first target the AT's, then archers, then ballista/pults and finally the layers in order of speed. The compact defence hasn't failed, it has done its job as expected.

yea, it wasnt letting me hide them for some reason.. i changed it over to a pic attachment...

    THanks though.. ;0

Yea, the report baffles me... and all the following reports were equally baffling... all of them cleared the ATs, then the Archers... didnt even touch the compact defense as it should have...

Looks like his Archery + Walls range bonus > your Archery

edit: A second look always helps to make sense of things better :P

You had no range setters left. i.e, no abatis, traps or def trebs. That meant the battle started at AT range. Thus, it took out those troops in that order.

In one of my very early defences, I had a lv10 wall with just 1 trap. I faced 2 X 100k archer waves. While the first splatted (taking out some cav), the second splatted and took out a small number of my ATs. I guess its similar to your case.

Range setters... have enough of them. More than enough is even better

Hey DrPerv! I don't think he knows what a "compcat defence" is lolz . A computer cat taking down a fence? O.o

Seriously, he doesn't know what a compact defense is. He doesn't understand how defense work with or without the range wall fortifications.

Everyone should learn Evony the same way we do. Go to Legoland and buy a full castle battle box. Place the models next to our computer Evony screen and start learning how each unit behaves.

fortunately for me, I DO understand the CD and how battle mechanics work. I posted this for a friend so that he could see others' inputs on it. I explained it to him the best I could, but it is always best to have the opinions of others to see as well.

Having any kind of 'rangesetters' such as trab/abatis defeat the purpose of the compact defense, and having (more) cav/phract in the mix would have stopped most of those archers before letting them have a chance to do as much damage to the AT/Archers in the city.

Every defense has a weakness, and it is up to the attacker to exploit the weaknesses of the city they are attacking. He did this, and did it well.

    Thanks again
