You had no range setters left. i.e, no abatis, traps or def trebs.
That meant the battle started at AT range. Thus, it took out those troops in that order.
In one of my very early defences, I had a lv10 wall with just 1 trap. I faced 2 X 100k archer waves. While the first splatted (taking out some cav), the second splatted and took out a small number of my ATs. I guess its similar to your case.
Range setters... have enough of them. More than enough is even better

Battle should have started at Catapult base range + 200 or 1700 due to the 25 catapults present with only towers on the walls.
The range settings for the different ranged units are:
Archers: 1400
Towers: 1500
Ballista: 1600
Catapults: 1700
You can verify this by sending 25000 archers (or enough archers to one-shot the cavalry) + 1 catapult at a level 10 valley that only has cavalry, and then send the same number with a single ballista. The cavalry will have a move of 1500 and attack range of 100 which will allow them to hit the archers with the ballista, but not the archers with the catapult due to the extra 100 starting distance granted by the catapult.
