Well, if they're not supposed to be used in the endgame, then why is it that the level to even start researching stockpile is as high as it is, you're not likely to fully finish researching stockpile until the endgame (because of the costs), and the warehouses have one of the longest build times compared to other buildings?
Perhaps they're not 'supposed' to be used in the endgame since they're not worth the time, space, or resources for the amount of resources that they 'protect'? And then if that's the case, why would a new player city build it in the first place, when there's so many other things that need to be built (with the time, space, and resources available) for an even more pathetic amount of resource 'protection' (maybe 50k-100k resource protection depending on how much effort was put into this area)?
So, with how pathetic warehouses are, there was really only the market as resource protection for them, if they built up the market enough to have enough trades on the go. And it was likely your complaining has taken that away from them ... way to go.
