well, i've looked at a few other sites outside of evony, not much help there either, but from what i've gathered, there's a lot of burden put on "vassels". however, there's nothing i've discovered that says a suzerain can't assist said vassels.

Like PF said, if they're both willing to communicate, perhaps it can be a mutually beneficial relationship, especially if a colony is attacked. With a Suzerain, i mean a good one, they'll have more than just a hero to defend them.

And, if they ever want to get free, the good Suzerain could give them correct info on uprising.

It will never be beneficiary to the Colony. If the colony really needed protection from a bigger player, then why not join his/her alliance? That way the you don't lose 10% of everything you make. Plus then the Suzerain could just do whatever he/she wants whenever he/she feels like it.

So no, it's not beneficiary to be a colony.

You should write something about how to get the most out of a Colony.

    It can be beneficial.

Let's say I want to set up an outpost in a godforsaken corner of the map with no friendliest around and the objective is way shorter term than to get friendlies for. I'd simply ask a player there that I can talk to to colonize my city. It would give him/her an overview over my city and they can check up on if I am holding to what I said I am there for without the need to attack or scout me. They can tell instantly if I brought in bally etc. In return, being colonized, I avoid further attack on my outpost. It could even be used tactically. If I have an agreement with the suz to not levy my troops, I could even offer to do some hits for them (that could be the whole point of making the outpost in the first place).

Besides, if the colonized is a nice guy and the suzerain is just not sure if they want them in their alliance yet, this could serve as great probation. Protection for tribute. And statistically, not often are colonized cities attacked by others if the susan is strong

Don't write off the usefulness of suz/colony rels so fast. I'd love to see this discussion grow

i'm working on the benefits of colonies as we speak. So far the information i've gathered is iffy at best, since it's either second hand or beta posting. however, i come to the conclusion that I must try this for myself to fully understand the nature and process of colonization.

actually i was on na16 yesterday and found out yes, i've been colonized. I got a brief series of reports showing what happened, and the guy was only taking small tributes. I took everything down to 0, pop, resources, you name it, then i moved to another map. Now i'm joining an alliance and seeing if i can get a different suzy, since this one hasn't responded to my mails. I know i should be doing the opposite to uprise, hiding extra troops in a valley, but this was my initial reaction.
