Well yeah making it free was certainly not the best (and thankfully not the only) alternative I offered... You get the WoF thing every day right? Why not just give a small amount of speakers each day, like 5 or 10 to every player as a sort of allowance... it still allows those people who have either no money ( /inclination to spend it) and no luck on the WoF to say something, and since it's only a few speakers a day the possibility of spam would still remain minimal... doesn't even have to be cumulative.

Honestly i think its ok , even now when you have to pay to speak the world chat is full of spam , foreign languages , swearing and ppl arguing. It would be 10 times worst if the speakers system wasn`t implemented.

Until there will be ingame chat moderators its more than ok, actually less speakers would be great.

Personally, I think the Speaker system should be revamped as follows:

    1. Remove all Speaker awards from the Wheel. (Those who don't use them certainly don't want to win them instead of something more valuable and useful.)
    2. Provide five Speakers per day to each player (like the Aries Amulet daily award).
    3. Let all players know in advance that it uses a Speaker to type one line of text in the World/Beginner Chat. Advise them to use their words sparingly, because they aren't unlimited. This could replace the System message telling us to whispher "Hi Dude" to Mike.
    4. Remove Speakers from the Shop. If an alliance wants to spam the board with advertising, let them have their members use their daily free Speakers to do so. (It's ridiculous to pay for the privilege of speaking anyway, and even more ridiculous that people actually pay for it.)

It would be advantageous to the gaming environment as a whole if players were given a free amount of Speakers daily, because there are quite a few people who do provide answers to new players (or confused players) that ask questions in World/Beginner Chat. If these new players don't get the help they are asking for, they will be less likely to continue playing.

And yes, there are many, many questions that get asked in Chat where the answer is provided via Whisper, thus preventing everyone else with that same question to be given the answer. Often, when someone asks a question and gets their answer in a whisper, you can usually see at least two or three other people ask that same question within a few minutes (because they believe it wasn't answered at all).

Free chatters in Alliance Chat only means that those players will speak to their alliance members. Sure, that's nice, but there are plenty of players not in an alliance who still have questions.

There is no regulation over Chat, thus the profusion of useless spam, vulgarities, racial comments, and other harassing remarks. Rather than doing silly and pointless "events" like parading female gamers around like Barbie doll trophies for the predominantly-male environment to gawk at or make fun of, perhaps the developers should appoint Chat Moderators. They already have an employment application process that you can submit resumes to (that most likely don't get reviewed at all), so why not have a Chat Mod application process (that most likely won't get reviewed at all)?

    My thoughts on it.

Would mean that Evony loses out on income though... I wish there was a way to keep that income AND make the system more flexible. I think we're definately moving in the right direction though.

World chat is pretty worthless from what I've seen. Within a day the endless stream of spam and eleventy111!!!1 type comments made me instantly click alliance chat after logging on. A better Idea would be a mail sat in a new players mailbox suggesting they go to the forums and look at the sticky posts in the guides section. Simple, effective.

That way the spammers can sit in world chat talking nonsense at each other meaning UMGE still get their cash, and newcomers actually get some help and might stick around...meaning more people that might spend money on the game - an yes, I'm appealing to UMGE's weak point, their wallet

I like the way it is now. I pretty much never use the world chat as it is, and having it priced is a way to reduce spam. Maybe lessening the times it comes up on WoF, but when it does, increase the amount?

I dunno, maybe even raising the price would be better. Like I said, I know of no one who uses it, so I don't really see it's uses other than alliance recruiting. But, yet again, if anyone is like me, I've been ignoring the world chat since day 1.
