I just don't think the concerns make much sense. Some people are artificially dropping prestige. Some people are artificially raising prestige. You wouldn't expect to see -both- of these occurring if there was some clear benefit to one over the other.
What's the alternative anyway? Should you be able to click on a player and get a list of all their cities, all their heroes, how many troops they have, etc.? As the above commenter mentioned - you get that by scouting anyway. And you can look up their heroes in the stats list.
So what else could one want? In the later stages of the game the most important factor is skill anyway - and there's no stat to show whether someone knows how to use game mechanics or not.
With prestige raising, at least there's bragging rights if you get in the top ten. That seems like more of a problem, but again, it's really minor. I wouldn't complain if they did away with the alliance-dropping prestige penalty, but mostly just because I don't think there's much need for it. If someone wants to put themselves down to 200k prestige, then I thank them for my improved ranking.
