Thread: Non-Flash download version

    Default Non-Flash download version

I know that the current client front-end is downloaded (although not truly the "complete" client). However, I'd like to see is a Non-Flash Windows download version.

Evony has taken Flash/Flex way beyond its limits. As a result the client becomes extremely slow and unresponsive after just 30 to 45 minutes of player. Flash/Flex is only suitable for little-league games like Farmville and Happy Farm.

Yes, it would be a big undertaking, but creating a non-Flash full downloadable version of the client would greatly enhance player experience.

I like the idea of using a downloaded client, but im sure you will all say if im wrong, but having a client you can physically play around with may give the smarter people among us even more chance to exploit evony to get to the top

Edit: btw i used to be smart but years of smoking has taken its toll as you can probably tell by my posts [this will probably get edited by a mod anyway]

Download a freeware version of a game called "Civilization."
Or any of the dozens of early gen RTS games and you will get roughly the same "offline" experience.

Just for reference, Evony ruled downloadable clients out.

But since this isn't the suggestion forum,

I think it would be great once they get it nice and stable and updates start getting further apart if this happened, But i doubt evony want to double staff numbers, and doubt more if they want to replace there staff that have knowledge of the games workings with staff that can reprogram evony into a new language, for platform deployment. The best thing about Browser Games especially ones based on generic software like flash, is any hardware capable can find software to run the game without continuous tweaks for different platforms.

Other highly compatible programing languages still rely on large quantities of 3rd party additions (like Dynamic Link Librarys). Although you could do without these additions it greatly increases the programing required (Since you have to make the parts you want from scratch) And companies like microsoft dont share sufficient information about the inner workings of there operating systems, thus making developers jobs more difficult.

Im informed that flash programming does not rely on these dependencies. Making cross platform deployment much much simpler, meaning more people can play easier. Which lets face it, for evony this matters.

It appears that the only downside to the robustness of flash is the footprint of programs running it.

All in all i doubt evony will change there mind in a hurry about platform deployment

That is not going to happen. If you're having problems with CPU lag, try a different browser.

Short and sweet however this doesnt solve the majority of the problems. whichever browser i use im lucky if evony is using less than 800mb of ram and virtual memory after 30-45mins of playing. However the bandwidth evony uses is extremely small..around 1mb per hour.

I know they have already said its not going to happen, but we can talk about what it would be like if they did :P

Did you happen to check out the follow up to your post in the game suggestion thread on this topic?

Would be interesting if it fixed your problem.
