well... it is beyond my control. If Evony waits too long to start 144, then our team will lose interest and drift away. And everyone loses then. But for certain... we are not playing Age 2.

none of our team wants to start late on 143... where you get farmed right out of BP... and never catch up to the players that start on Day One... sorry
Rasterbee is right... there are lots of open flats left on 143, even in Romagna, which is usually the most crowded area.
You could always start in one of the more remote and peaceful zones, and then dive into the wars once you build up. The real heavy wars haven't started yet. The server is only 2 wks old, and probably half or more of the players still working on being able to farm lv5 npc's right now.
To answer the actual question.
The purpose of Evony is to cause massive amounts of ragequits, an uncountable number of annoying world chat people and entertain the few people who don't quit or ***** about the game on the forums. I fall into that latter category.
I didnt finish that one up... Closing your gates means that you end up being colonized... which means... nothing...
You loose a truly insignificant percentage of your resources, in return your army is protected from destruction.
Teleport more than 8 hours away, uprise... Bingo you no longer are a colony. Most of my colonies did this.
I have spent money on the game, i am so annoyed that they change the game experience so drastically after you have committed yourself... all those hours of building up my cities, what for ? To loose all of my armies again because of a stealth nerf. There is no way im going to destroy all of my level 9 lumber mills to make farms, sitting in front of my computer for the next two weeks, click click click...
I was just at the point where i can seriously start thinking about my first level 10 NPC.
Coins and prestige have nothing to do with it... those topics are completely separate discussions. No one on my team wants to start late... you would be a fool to start a server that is already three weeks old.
Coins? I do not have enough time for endless valley attacks to farm medals. I have a business and a family in real life.. so I buy medals to advance. If I was a college kid with nothing to do and no money, then I would farm medals instead. Nothing against you...or me... we have different lives and needs.
and Prestige? It is a worthless measure of power. Well-built cities, timely research, good teammates, combat skill, discipline, and vision ... those are the real sources of power in this game.
