    Default Evony's missed opportunity

Wow...being back reading these forums brings back a lot of memories. Having quit Evony months ago, I have been away for a long time. Recently there have been a lot of discussions about b-o-t-s and what do do. I want to share with you an email I sent to evony some time ago.

    Unfortunately, this mail went unanswered:
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Greetings:

Recently, my account was suspended from Evony for b-o-t-t-i-n-g. I did indeed use a third party b-o-t. The purpose of this email is not to plead innocence (for I am not), but to discuss the following.

This email is to illuminate what may be a missed opportunity for Evony. I thoroughly enjoy the game of Evony, but due to my work schedule, as well as responsibilities in the home, I cannot be competitive in the world of Evony because I cannot be at a computer for hours at a time every day. By using a third party program to upgrade, farm NPC's, train troops, and medal farm, that allowed me to spend my limited online time attacking and building alliances. I believe that I am not the only player to realize that unless we live at, or work all day at a computer this game will not be for us. We will quickly be swallowed up by the players that live online. This is evidenced by the fast rate at which players join, and then quit this game.

The downside to this is that Evony is limiting its appeal to a small segment of the population. There simply is no room for a casual player in this competitive field. This is where Evony may be missing an opportunity. Evony could indeed broaden its appeal if it offered automation as a part of the game. There are many people (like me) who work and have disposable income, and would be open to the idea of buying coins to purchase a "city manager" as part of the game for a month, or week, at a time. The idea would be to take the automation idea of the b-o-t - and implement it into the game. We could buy a city manager for 100 cents a month, and that manager could be directed to do routine tasks - i.e. farm npc's, upgrade cities, build troops, and medal farm valleys at all cities.

This would be a win for Evony. This would increase the numbers of casual players who continue to actively play after realizing there is indeed a way to be competitive with those who live online. This would also increase the revenue to Evony for many players would spend the $10 per month for a city manager. If this feature is indeed implemented, I would caution you against pricing it greater than 100 cents for 28 days. Those who use this feature would use it continuously for months at a time - giving a steady income stream to Evony. If it is priced above $10/month, that does become difficult to justify for a game.

I hope these suggestions are taken to heart, and even possibly implemented into the game. As for me, my Evony career is at an end. I spent $120 on this game throughout various accounts. Quite frankly, I believe the money was well spent for it's purpose - entertainment. Unfortunately, the recent b-o-t crackdowns are driving me away. If we are prohibited from allowing an automation function to our game - either through a third party, or directly through Evony, we will no longer be competitive. We are being forced to spend our entertainment dollars elsewhere.

    Sincerely,

    Knightly

In one players opinion, Evony stands at a crossroads. The current path leads down to a land of fewer players and less revenue. The proposed option of a city manager would offer another pathway leading to greater numbers of players and increased revenue. I wish the world of Evony well. I do miss the game, and hope all the remaining active gamers enjoy great success.

If you want to be ranked high in prestige, then you have to put in a lot of time in this game. But to be able to compete, survive, have a good time and all, you don't need anything more than an active alliance and a realization that your cities are not real. I've played this game for over a year, with people who played 15+ hours a day and others who log on 3 times a week. The beauty of Evony is you don't have to put in massive amounts time or a single cent to do well. If you're too impatient or not willing to communicate with other players, then I can see where you feel you have to che@t to survive, but its just not necessary to do so, to have fun and do well, in this game.

I like the fact that this game is free (it allows me to play it!) and I think Evony has a good balance between cheapskates like me, and the hardcore players who pay good money to be at the top of the rankings.

Just make an all bot server. Case closed.

All bots caught on normal servers are banished to bot server he**.

The rest of us can play against real people.

Personally I hate and despise botters. To me they are like ye old plague.

But hey if you insist then why not have an all bot server.

PS I have suggested this many times. Generally with more that a bit of sarcasm, but why not?

I don't think I can totally agree with what is being asked for. I don't agree that someone should be be able to use bots to do things likes build armies, builds building or attack an defend. Those are actions the player should have to do. Even as a paid service, players should still have to log in and actually play the game.

The idea of them losing revenue because of the time requirements needed I totally agree with.

I think the the biggest reason people botted was that they could not put in the time required to farm and maintain their armies. This drove people away because they could not be competitive. As long as troops consume food, Evony will always be missing out on a higher streams of revenue.

yea but waiting online for a 15 minute NPC hit is a bit tedius, Evony could perhaps allow you to give heros and units a "queue" of tasks for the day.

    Some problems:

What do you do about items in the queue where the situation has changed?

What about items further down the queue that are dependent upon completion of things that did not get completed ahead of them (missing prerequisites)?

What if the queue is running along just fine and the queue manager crashes for whatever reason?

What if the queue is running along just fine, but another player starts attacking? Is the queue manager supposed to be adaptive? Is it supposed to know to recall troops that are out so as to be able to defend the city?

    ...among other possible issues...

If you want an AI to play the game for you, then you are not playing the game.

The absolute most I would concede that is valid is a construction queue of buildings. That has precedent to support its' development, e.g. the training queues in the barracks and the fortification queues for the walls. The building queue should be based on the level of the town hall, just like the barracks and walls handle their queues.

However, farm bots, heal bots, battle bots, etc, etc, etc, should never be supported. If you want to get better / stronger in the game, then you should play the game. If you want to play the game, but you don't want to spend the time, then the company provides items to help speed things up that are available for purchase.

If you cannot afford the items AND the items are "reasonbly priced" (there is debate on if the pricing is reasonable), then the game may not be for you.

If you want to change the pricing structure or the drop rates of items to be more economically feasible for a larger segment of the gaming population, that is also fine. However, those of us who have tried / are trying to do that are hindered by people who want lots of things for nothing, as we too get classified as people who want lots of things for nothing, because the people who want something for nothing scream so loudly that they drown out the more rational requests. Clamoring for the use of bots is one such example of requests that significantly harm more sincere efforts...

In my opinion, the idea of a Manager isnt fair on New players who dont want to spend 100s of ? or $ on Evony.

-NPC farming automation is a must. Otherwise, completely remove NPCs from the game.

-FaceBook farming (visiting) is way too slow. More time consuming than NPC farming, less resources. Only good for early in the game.

-Troop training automation is a must. A command like 'keep training archers with highest attack hero, until resources run out'.

-Automatically pick best mayor for the job in town is a must. Why on earth should we keep changing them, all day every day. It doesnt add anything positive to the game.

-Auto-builder (queue) is not a good option. People should build their cities themselves.

Players botted because they could and because they thought they could get away with it.
Then they tried all these arguments and more when they were banned for botting.
    Then they went away.
Personally, I was happy to see them go and I don't see any reason to re-open this subject.
    PEACE
