Thread: what would "100% faster" be?

I absolutely agree that wording is a problem... which is why I asked for maths.... verbally I think we can all agree that "twice as fast is half the time"... but I contend that 100% faster would be zero time, and I dont CARE how many units would be produced

    Obviously you are confused yourself.

200% faster is 3 times the speed <-- a 200% INCREASE in speed is NOT the same thing as 200% faster.
100% faster is double the speed <-- I dont want to DOUBE my speed, I want to half my time

If you want a % that is the same speed and no faster at all?
Then that is 0% faster. <-- I want a percentage that cuts my time in half.... 50% faster

OK so you failed that section of math. <-- maybe... show me

However you did get the second part right.

100% reduction in construction time is instant!!!!woot woot You got a gold star!!!!!! Unfortunately for us Evony never promises a 100% reduction in build time. <-- saying "reduction" != "faster" is just semantics

    Then you confused yourself again.

10% faster is 110% of the original speed! <-- no 10% faster means it takes 90% of the time to complete
90% slower is 10% of the original speed! <-- 90% slower means it takes 10% longer to compleate
110% faster is 210% of original speed! <-- a job cannot be completed 10% sooner than it was started.

Looks like you failed that section of math too! -- again, maybe.

Actually it isnt that complicated. You simply need to know the proper terminology and math. The great thing about math is: It is the universal language. Further in simple math like this there is really no debates or opinions to it. No complications, no grey areas, no misunderstandings. -- obviously there ARE misunderstandings, but I know what you "mean"

NOW the big question is: Where did you confuse yourself? How did you stray from proper math to mistaken math? Very simple.

10% faster = 110% <-- faulty assumption... NOT trying for a POSITIVE change (say, in units built) but a negative change... less time
10% as fast = 10% -- again, just semantics, not a mathematical argument

any positive % "FASTER" will actually be faster! <-- I think this is MY point and your math doesnt support it
any positive % less than 100% "AS FAST" will actually be slower! <-- semantically backwards... show me.

Most of your post makes sence and is correct. However you also made the same mistake as OP and Andrew. 100% "as fast" is exactly the same! In no way would that ever be instant unless the base was instant to begin with! (Obviously not the case in Evony) <-- again, I DONT want to do "word problems"... this isnt an argument of the value of "faster vs as fast"

sheesh What happened to grade school math these days????????

No wonder "Are you smarter than a 5th grader" is so popular!!!!!
