    Default Sorting & Layering Troops

    This is for AGE II.
Uprise and Suppression battles in Age 2 will be "blind". Troops garrisoned in a players embassy are "hidden" and do not show on the scout report. Also, during the 8hr battle reinforcements can be sent at the last minute by either side. So knowing exactly what you are up against will be near impossible in Age 2. Also, the battles will be huge. EACH SIDE will have hundreds of thousands of troops, possibly millions of troops all packed into one city PLUS a embassy loaded with reinforcements. The battle will NOT happen in waves. It will be the entire mass of troops on BOTH SIDES all engaging at once. So the entire way of fighting in Age 2 along with what troops to use has suddenly changed from an exact science in Age 1 into a "blind" approach. So in Age 2 we need to design troop groups that are well balanced for offense and defense. So "blind" offensive groups and "blind" defensive groups.

Um, this is mainly for me. I am learning layering and all that stuff so when I send attacks that consist of various types of units I need to know what units of the group engage the enemy first and so on. It really makes a difference. So I have broken down troop types in various categories. I am thinking of defensive troop groups and offensive troops groups.

Feel free to correct anything that I wrote. I am still learning all this stuff.

So we will sort all of the troops by speed, range, life, attack and defense.

Who engage first based on speed: Troops that engage first, second, third, etc...
    Scouts speed 3000
    Cavalry speed 1000
    Cataphracts speed 750
    Pike speed 300
    Swordsmen speed 275
    Archers speed 250
    Warriors speed 200
    Workers speed 180
    Rams speed 120
    Ballistas speed 100
    Catapults speed 80

Who die the easiest based on life/defense: Sorted from easiest to highest. Defense of troop also affects it's life.
    Workers life 100 defense 10
    Scouts life 100 defense 20
    Warriors life 200 defense 50
    Archers life 250 defense 50
    Pike life 300 defense 150
    Ballistas life 320 defense 160
    Swordsmen life 350 defense 250
Cavalry/Catapults life ~500 defense ~200 (basically the same)
    Cataphract life 1000 defense 350
    Rams life 5000 defense 160

Troops with farthest attack range: Sorted from shortest to longest
    Workers range 10
    Scouts/Warriors (tie) range 20
    Swordsmen range 30
    Pike range 50
    Cataphract range 80
    Cavalry range 100
    Rams range 600
    Archers range 1200
    Ballistas range 1400
    Catapults range 1500

Troops with strongest attack: Sorted from weakest to strongest
    Worker attack 5
    Scouts attack 20
    Warrior attack 50
    Swordsmen attack 100
    Archers attack 120
    Pike attack 150
    Cavalry/Rams attack 250
    Cataphract attack 350
    Ballistas attack 450
    Catapults attack 600

Troops with strongest defense: Sorted from weakest to strongest
    Worker defense 10
    Scouts defense 20
    Archers/Warriors defense 50
    Pike defense 150
    Ballistas/Rams defense 160
    Cavalry defense 180
    Catapults defense 200
    Swordsmen defense 250
    Cataphract defense 350

Now, let's create some well balanced "blind" attack and defense groups for Age 2 mega battles based on the stats above.
Let me know what you guys come up with!!!

Might as well add there numbers in too since you are ranking them but good thread idea....It will be interesting what opinions come from this thread...and the biggest factor in how to layer is what are you attacking or defending against

I would certainly include warriors and workers, as this thread is called 'Sorting & Layering'.

Cavalry and Catapults seem to be the main forces of a good offensive combo.

    Good offensive troop combo A:
    5% scouts
    30% Cavalry
    10% Cataphract
    10% Rams
    10% Pike
    5% swordsmen
    10% Ballistas
    20% Catapults

    Good offensive troop combo B:
    5% Scouts
    50% Cavalry
    10% Pike
    5% Rams
    10% Ballistas
    20% Catapults
How did you get to these numbers?
Everything is so situational. Like, scouts dont move when there are 5.2K range setters. Catapults will slow down your attack immensely. Mechanics are not very effective in small numbers. Your layers should be designed to make sure your main attack group has maximum effect (usually, tradefire with archers). Perfect size of your layering is highly situational.

Basically, in this thread, you're trying to simplify the battle engine, which is immensely complicated. Have you read hellfire's guide already?

Hm, well, these are for "blind" defense and "blind" offense. It seems that in age 2 you cannot learn what reinforcements a player has in their embassy. So in age 2 there will be many large battles we will fight that will be "blind" with hundreds and thousands, possibly millions of troops all fighting in a single city during uprise/supression battles, no waves. So I'll add warriors and workers as well as calrify that this is for Age 2...

Ah, for uprising and suppression, the battle engine becomes a lot easier indeed. Maybe this thread does have potential now

And I have learned that playing from a colonized position is the best way to play Age II.
Great piece of rationalisation Bruticus. Are you seriously telling me that had you not been colonised you would have mailed one of your neighbours to colonize you? Of course not.

No. And if you read my posts in other areas I clearly said that I did not like being colonized at first. But I soon learned it was a great position to play from. So, try to stay on topic here and not hijack this thread. Appreciated.

Edit: Read this my man, it explains playing from a colonized position and is my first guide on how to. Other than that, let's stay on topic here.
