You guys are confusing 2 things here.
- The npc "nerf"
- The game continuity
The "Nerf"
The "nerf" (or I like to call it, an EXPLOITED BUG FIX) is a good thing. It applies limits to the higher players, and does not affect new players. Limits mean that the game becomes less strength-in-numbers (and game time), but rather strategy.
Although I don't see many strategies yet except layering attacks, it certainly gives more room to improve on the existing battle system, rather than spamming your 800k archers over and over.
Continuity
As for the continuity of the game, Evony is very alliance-based, which is a good thing. The bad thing is that alliance vs alliance battles do not feel very rewarding, due to the fact that you can never reduce their prestige. So attacking a strong alliance to prove your better will never show that way on the top scores.
Of course, there is Honor, but its so easy to gain and lose, that it seems pointless.
Working on Alliances is the way forward (opinion). Some simple ideas that could keep the game interesting:
- State kings (or queens), can be challenged between alliances
- areas of influence, highlight areas of the map that are influenced by different alliances. allow players to fight over that land. its hard to see who-owns-what on the map at times (especially valleys)
- ratings based on land owned by alliances (valleys, citys total etc)
These ideas will probably fall on deaf ears, but you should get the point im trying to make.
