Thread: The Future of Evony, and some hints to survive.

Default The Future of Evony, and some hints to survive.

Well, first of all, the number of players will certainly go down...

With this new "nerfed" NPC system, the style of the game will change drastically. Seeing as people with really large armies can no longer support themselves for the most part, we will see a growing trend of this style:

Roaming Armies: What I mean by roaming armies is that these will be campaign sized, full 60-100k ballistae, 200k archers, etc. They will also be outfitted with many, many workers (for city building) and absolutely ridiculous numbers of transports.

They will constantly go in one direction, settling down in a city, then proceeding to raid every single person around them until they are either dead or dry. Taking over their cities and turning them NPC also provides some income. Then they'll pick up and keep moving.

I feel like I will see a lot of this in the near future with the much larger players. I myself have no need for that, but I definitely do not want that to be what Evony turns out to be.

Evony is about creating an empire, through any means necessary right? The result of this new fix is that we have degraded ourselves into barbarianism.

If you wish to survive this new future, if you are the guy with a large, unsupportable army, start building transports fast and workers. Also make sure you don't have anything above 8 cities. If you're the new player, then stop playing because you cannot do a thing.

--- Later on in the future, only those who have perfected this method will thrive since less roamers will exist. The population of the server will go down due to people losing entire armies and a rampant growth in annihilations. Good luck everyone, the future looks to become a wasteland.

    (Thought of a new one)

Option 2: This puts extreme emphasis on an alliance working together. Basically, everyone comes together and builds as many cities as close as possible. Many of these cities will have little to no army, but are going to be supported by one large player. This player is essentially the lord and takes the food from the other so his army is supported. This allows for large conflicts to occur as well as that roaming lifestyle put away. On a side note, this could be used for the defense against roaming armies. A large alliance with many strong members can force a roamer back and perhaps take all of his goods.

Like I said, this "fix" will cause the game to end in a month or two. Why players don't just use the same methods strong players use to get stronger, instead of complaining about it, I will never know.

Massive armies that never die is the problem then and that is a problem in and of itself.

I never said the game would be over, those who manage to efficiently roam around will succeed and thrive. What I mean by this is that if this continues, start roaming now. Also, keep the capital where you want all your food. Protect it with as much stuff as you can, but this will be the place you go when all the trails die out. Then you can venture in another direction. The population will go down, but you will still survive.

That is what will happen for those who have enormous armies. You can't set a limit on number of transports or number of raids in a day. That's far too much.

The game will be over, because 80% of the players will quit over being farmed on every corner of the map. With such a small player base, Evony won't find any money in keeping this game running and shut it down.

You are somewhat right. There is going to be a mas suicide run. An effort to eliminate bloated armies.

It's amazing though how all these people were on forums telling frustrated noobs to get over it, do like me, be like me. Now they have no easy button and it's "I'm quitting" "This game sucks".

    Adapt or die.

That's the hard truth. I feel like Evony is slowly spiraling down into their own death. Thus, the large players are going to give it their last hurrah, but unfortunately, they too will disappear no with a bang, but with a whisper.

The game has kind of been dying a "heat death" similar to what Oedipus mentioned for a long time. This may have merely accelerated the decline (similar to using a lot of energy and releasing it as heat, increasing entropy).

Since Barb farming erupted tons of people made it to the end game within days (full on all techs, tons of cities with no need to spend time on production and instead filling their cities with barracks to produce gigantic armies asap).
So what's left really? Lots of people farming barbarians a couple hours a day, buying up resources to continue their war building effort. *snooze*.
The world is both too cramped and too expansive. That is to say the map being a 500x500 grid (is it bigger for o ther servers? bah) means that with 21000 some players each capable of building 10 cities, each city capable of taking 10 valleys, and barbarians on the map, things get mightly claustrophobic mighty fast. So it's all cramped and you can't breathe, but it's ALSO too expansive, in that it takes about a million hours to go anywhere. I was farming barbs and even the cities I managed to set up within 2 squares of my farming town were a 30 minute round trip. Forget attacking anyone you can't see in the 9x9 grid around your town, that takes hours, and costs you thousands upon thousands (or even hundreds of thousands) of food, for no gain.

So farming gets old quick, having a big army number is fun when you log on once a day to check how things are going until you realize you don't care, attacking people is a huge pain and fruitless, so there's not much left within the game. Now that your big army is going to starve itself to death, well... that just accerlates the rate at which people will slowly realize they're in a somewhat fruitless position.
Would be awesome if they made some simple changes like doubling the grid dimensions and quartering the travel time. Or maybe even 1/8thing it (there'd be 4x as many squares total, though not in a straight line of course). People wouldn't have to be right on top of each other, and you wouldn't be getting spammed by 5 second attacks necessarily but at least it could be possible hit your enemies.

Uhm, a return to barbarian days with gold cut by 10 seems fine as well. I dunno, so many ideas so few people listening.

Thus the end will be that people stop playing. People will strain their armies and rage/cry all over the forums. The truth was, the game mechanics were never completely straight, their quick-fixes weren't completely sound, and the balance between powers were never right.

But simply making more room would amplify the lifetime of this game. Currently, I've hit that lvl 10 marker and find no serious reason to play. It has become less of a challenge and more of a routine.
