Thread: Counter against "playing dead"

    Default Counter against "playing dead"

Ever attacked someone who was a major threat? And had alot of potential to be reinforced and leave you with a 10% FAILED report?
Well i did just the other day and i lost 200k archers with no reports. The enemy played dead and had reinforcements landing just 3 seconds before my attack landed. When i scouted the aftermath he had 500k archers in his base (380k from reinforcements).
So my question is what can you do to prevent this? Because its impossible to scout and have time to recall if you're opponent and his alliance knows what they are doing. Even if you scout 10 seconds before your attack they can sneak in the rein in 3 seconds.. making it impossible to detect.
So, after i got done being upset that i got owned i came up with a tatic to make sure this never happens again. I'll share it with you guys, and if many of you are already doing this or this strategy is widely known then forgive me because i've never been taught this.
Heres what i do. I send a "fake" attack 1-2 mins before my real attacks land. I make my fake attack look as real as possible. for example 1k of each layering troops and 95k archers. I plan to recall this attack NO MATTER what. i Time my scouts to land about the same time as my fake attack would of landed. Seconds from my fake attack landing i recall it, then my scouts come in and pick up a report. I check my report, IF the enemy was playing dead and was indeed being reinforced then all of the reinforcing troops would be laying dead in his city for me to scout. Now i have about 1-2 mins to recall all my attacks if i need to. if the scout report showed no changes then you can be 99% sure he is offline and/or not being reinforced.
Hope this little tatic will aid you guys in warfare.

That works against dumb people (but above-average people since they were smart enough to rein using camp time), but a very good player will still have the upper hand in that department.

All this trouble just to recall all your attacks?

Maybe there's some techniques out there that allow you to land attacks for effect. I'd check those out.

By the way, given about 3 mins prep time, I can land reinforcements (yes, multiple) in someone's town within 1 second of an attack, and I can recall them within about 5 seconds too - sometimes faster if the player I'm reinforcing is helping me.

You may want to note that this is for Age I, not Age II. In Age II using camp time is different than Age I. The heros can be mounted with a horse which will screw up arrival time sometimes as much as 3-4 hours if sending a long distance. So you need to undo the mount on your heros in Age II so camp time arrival is not affected.
Also, in Age II even when you remove the horse mount from the hero, there is a lag of up to sometimes 3-4 seconds from the time you click the button to the time the server actually starts sending it. I can only speak for server Na4.

Thanks to Boleslav for the Afro Samurai Signature series.
I have made a few video guides that may help you.

A valid tactic and one that is common enough among well organised alliances and experienced players. Harder to do if you have 30 or so layer coming in. Best way of doing it is get close and confuse the defender with mixed layers being sent close to the hit time of your main wave. Sending tiny scout or cav waves at the last minute to make it difficult to reins the city and withdraw as the defender has to keep checking reports to see which one was the real one. The lag on the servers makes percision reins very hard. Percision being withing a few seconds (constantly moving troops not just once off).

There was a report on the forum that they FINALLY fixed the mount bug in the RP. So that would mean AGE2 would be the same as AGE1 for this tactic.

Lag is a pain always. Age2 has more lag than my experience of Age1, especially busy servers and when you are a big player.

im just curious why come up with a tactic that allows you to beat them, share it with everyone so that person can read the forum then turn around and trump your new tactic thus bringing you back here to share that horrid detail with us i can understand if you was retired and sharing stuff or in a server with people that dont read the forum but come on i know at some point your helping them with the sharing of your tactics

I cant speak for the OP but as for me.

I think sharing strategies and tactics makes for a more enjoyable competitive game.

Because people like you are only thinking short-term, and something like this doesn't actually allow you to beat them, anyway. What it allows you to do is recall the following waves if the city has been reinforced heavily. What is knowing such a tactic going to do to help you? If it's being used against you, you still have to hold any reinforcements that were sent until the following waves were recalled in case they don't recall, and there is no guarantee they will recall the first wave, or that the spacing was intentional.

FYI, this isn't a new idea, but if you've been on the forums for an extended amount of time, you should know that by now.
But....the eternal ray of sunshine REALLY wanted to see you, so I helped brighten your day by removing the city from around you! ^.^
