Actually the PS3 has 11 versions each with different HDD sizes, 7 "phat" and 4 "slim.

The "wireless" controller connects through Bluetooth(c) 2.0 EDR *from the wikipedia article*
Bluetooth uses a radio technology called frequency-hopping spread spectrum, which chops up the data being sent and transmits chunks of it on up to 79 bands of 1 MHz width in the range 2402-2480 MHz. This is in the globally unlicensed Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) 2.4 GHz short-range radio frequency band.

And the "wireless" function for the internet connection on the PS3 is not JUST bluetooth. It's 802.11 B/G Wi-Fi, OR Bluetooth 2.0 (that last part is for those who actually know how to set up a Bluetooth internet connection which is far more secure than regular WANs.)

Oh and for specs on EARLY PS3 systems (as in, they're better now)

    Scroll down to the bottom.
The largest change since then is the fact that the PS3 is no longer a silicone based processor chip but cell based triple core 8 partition processor, making it like 8 times more functional that the Xbox.
That and the PS3 reads everything a 360 can minus the now defunct HD-DVD *but that's only because there isn't a firmware update to let us PS3 owners regulate the aperature for the laser to read HD-DVD *not that we'd want to.

The Ps3 has more visual processing power, displays at EXACTLY the same resolution, processes faster and more efficiently, comes with free online capabilities, DOES have a web browser *it sucks, that's what firefox is for*, operates with an optical drive that reads discs with literally TWICE the capacity, and comes with backwards compatibility....

    without updating.

Go L2 PS3 Nub before someone comes by and schools you in the ways of the geek.

I see only one thing wrong with this: Although I agree that PS3>Xbox, it is not completely backwards compatible without updating. However, there is a free update in the PSN store which allows you to play PS2 (and PS1, I think) games on your PS3. The only problem with this is that the slim version is incapable of playing PS2 games even with the update.

So what will you do when they call your name and you're not ready to go?

I never had to update mine in order to play a game I own *other than PS3 games* and I purchased mine release day from Wal-mart in Florida. There were three versions at release, the 80 gigabyte being the only one to my knowledge that wasn't backwards compatible. I don't know why but I believe it was because they manufactured the 80 gig-systems before decided to release the other two "smaller" versions and therefore received earlier versions of the firmware.

I do acknowledge the fact that there are games that aren't backwards compatible, but I've yet to experience it it my library and that's saying something considering the amount of money I've wasted on electronic entertainment.

The slim versions are tragedies to Playstation gamers (only because I'm still using a release PS3 with only a HDD upgrade). The reason they can't play the PS2 games is because in order to slim down the system they decided to remove only non-essential pieces to the system, namely, the hardware that enables the PS3 to emulate a Ps2 system without unnecessary software that could slow down the process. They didn't however, decide to remove things that are critical to a fully functioning, non-YLOD/RROD popping game systems.... like heat sinks...*coughxboxcough*

I find it simply hilarious that all of the people for PS3 are actually citing REASONS of why PS3 is better than Xbox, while just about all of the people who are vouching for the Xbox either mistate their facts or just say: "Xbox wins. Nuff said."

I think the moral of this story is: PS3 wins. Nuff said.
