I agree with this and would like to expand on this and possibly start a debate on a relevant matter to this statement. If any of you have read some of Karl Marx's theories on the bourgeoisie's (upper classes) control of the proletariat through education and religion are free to discuss this matter with me.

Karl Marx was a communist that invented Marxism and I value/share his theories on the control of the proletariat through brainwashing in the media and through education.

For the first part of the debate I would like to discuss this matter. I will start the thread by stating:

I see this theory as plausible. A man called Rupert Murdock is a person you could say owns the media. With a stake of 50% in Fox and other news agencies such as Sky News he has a substantial influence in the way things are put across to the public (proletariat). This is also prevalent in the newspaper industry, with one editor being in control of what YOU the proletariat reads and interperpates.

The rapid expansion of media throughout the 20th century has made it easier for the bourgeoisie to control what we see and hear and think.

To sum up: brainwashing started with religion and continues through the media/news.

Okay, not to be rude, but I think you missed the point... I'm sure most of us know what Communism hopes to achieve, but Professor X was asking whether "brainwashing" of a sort actually occurs today. Which, by the way, I believe it does.

In the instance of Karl Marx's writings the bourgeoisie were the upper class and I was more inclined for a conversation about class consciousness and the control of the lower classes through manipulation of media and other techniques.

karl marx wanted to use the french revolution as a example of the uprising of the lower class but infact it was not. They went bact to the fields in the very early stages of the french revolution.

Yes I believe that the French revolution was part class consciousness and part frustration of the stagnant anarchical reign of the royal classes.
