Thread: Illegal Immigration

    Default Illegal Immigration

I see illegal immigration as a security problem. It is imperative to secure a nations borders and know who is going in and out. The Department of Defence did a test where 10 people in radiation suits carried a huge bag carrying fake radiative material. they crossed the mexican and canadian border in several spots no one spotted them or tried to stop them.

The real issue is not "the mexicans are taking are jobs" It is imperative to be able to secure your borders.

There is almost no way to enforce border control short of building a great wall of America and even then the mexicans can find a way to climb it I guarantee.

I would hate to have to try to tackle immigration control that is a huge can of worms

So long as people can come to this country and get everything they want/need, they will continue to escape worse places and come here.

I think the answer lies in what we offer to them. For those who also benefit the country with honest labor, abiding by our laws and attempting to educate their children and simply having a better life, why not let them stay? We need to overhaul the antiquated and burdensome immigration process to allow for this.

For those who offer nothing to us...who increase the crime rate, endanger our citizens, leech off the system, and fail to even attempt to work within the laws, then we need to be firm and direct and take away all the advantages they might get here. How do we do that?

Make registration as an immigrant a much easier process, and make at least the initial parts free. Then stop allowing unregistered aliens to use our public schools for their children. Stop giving them food stamps. Don't place free clinics all over the cities and invite them in (although I still say human compassion dictates that you offer emergency medical care to anyone in need.) Remove that stupid law that says if your child is born on American soil that the baby is given automatic citizenship. If an unregistered alien is caught driving, impound the vehicle and put them in jail for a while before you deport them. If they are caught stealing, double the criminal penalties and then deport them when they get out of jail. Crack down on employers who use unregistered employees. Crack down on day laborers.

If coming here illegally were not so PROFITABLE, people wouldn't come over so much. If those who are fleeing truly terrible poverty or seeking refuge from harsh governments want to be here so bad, and the process for them to stay is reasonable, then we'll gain the people who make great Americans while discouraging those who do not.

I agree with most of that except the part about jailing them for crimes, the prison system is full enough as it is and the taxpayers are already paying a heavy burden I would just confiscate their property and deport them asap

In my opinion, those who work/pay taxes/follow the laws have every right to be in a country.

Those who don't work or pay taxes and break laws should not be allowed.

wait... I just looked up, this has already been said, effectively

I agree with most of whats been said here.

Foxybunny, I think you have some really great points, and Nesterus your point about the jail system is spot on, and is something for another discussion as it causes so many problems.

The major issue is simply that coming across the border illegally is too profitable. I appreciate the fact that there are immigrants who want to come to the U.S. and that want to do anything they can to stay here in a legal fashion.

Frankly I find it more appalling that there are U.S. citizens who are willing to use people from other countries to run drugs across the border with promises of citizenship, only to turn around and kill them.

Yep, this is exactly what I am talking about. Your parents, illegal though they were, were a credit to the country and I think we are better off for having your family here. These are the sort of immigrants the country is founded upon and we need to make it easier for them to be here. I have no doubts your parents couldn't go through the legal immigration process because it is expensive, complicated, time-consuming, and in many cases impossible. Why on earth do we make it so hard for honest, hard-working people to come here?

I still think the answer comes in making it easier for people like that to be here, and making it harder for those who are not a benefit to society to be here. Widen that gap between those who belong here and those who need to just leave.

I agree, but we also need to increase the punishment on those who help people cross the border illegally. We need to make the punishment so severe that similar to other things, the risk/benefit simply isn't worth it.
