    Default British Politics

Your Thoughts & Comments on the Current British Political Structure

I am rather please with the way this new Tory/Liberal coalition. As a long standing Liberal supported I was dubious at first, to say the least but David Cameron seems like a good bloke and one who really knows his politics. There are still several things I disagree with on him, like the 1 billion Trident nuclear defense system and his extreme cuts (which are harsher than Thatcher's era). Also who did you vote for?

Based on the title of this particular thread I had assumed this would be a discussion of the British International School of Political Science which concerns itself with the major philosophical schools and traditions in political philosophy, international doctrines, the concept of nationhood, national sovereignty, national representation, the self-determination of states, economic and military concerns, trading networks and alliance systems in the form of a balance of powers of a particular zone as in the case of the Concert of Europe which was the configuration of the major and minor European powers in the post-Napoleonic world.

In such a case, the three major subdivisions in the British International School of Economics and Political Science would be:

    -Hobbesian Realism [Thomas Hobbes]
    -Grotian Rationalism [Hugo Grotius]
    -Kantian Idealism [Immanuel Kant]

You know what the thread is aimed at discussing, so please stay on topic.

    Furcifer!

This is a thread about the British political structure, not this School of Science!

Think Houses of Parliament! Think Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair and Charles Kennedy!

    I, being 14, didn't vote.

However, my vote would've gone to Cameron.

The Liberal Conservatives (yes, that is their name...) may have introduced harsh cuts, but let's face it, if we cut now, we have more money in the long term, so all of these things that Labour (cursed be their members) want now, can be done later, when the economy is growing and things are back to normal. Then we can do the things that Labour was going to do now and still have money left to do other things!

    Hear, hear!

That was a huge blow to our system.

However, the thing that destroyed my belief in Labour, was, of course, Bigotgate.

Ah, how can we forget that classic quote from Gordon...

    "Just some bigoted woman....."
