Default Age II: Accomodating real life people

Say your rich Uncle in France invites you to stay in his mansion for a month but he only has old school dial-up 56k modem. Or you go on a 2 week vacation. Or you travel to Spain for a 3 month student intership. Or your wife has a baby and you won't be online for a few weeks. Or you move from Chicago to Los Angeles and they screwup your internet in the new apartment so you need to wait 4 weeks for new DSL service to get installed. Bro, people have lives. Life happens.
And in Age II guess what? No problem. Let your alliance know you will be offline or have very limited access for the next month. Close your gates and relax. When you can get back online a month later you find that all of your cities are colonized and that 70% of your overall troops have been slowly drafted over that period of time. No problem. You ask your alliance to help you uprise and overthrow the Suzerain or you can build back up yourself and do it on your own. It may take you a few weeks to build up enough troops to uprise. Or if you have a strong alliance you can get reinforced and uprise in a day or two. Now that the monkey is off your back, you are back in business and ready to open multiple cans of whoop a$$...
This is one of the very very nice things about Age II. It accomodates people with real lives and real schedules.

But what about when you go deep into enemy territory? Would you say playing from a colonized position is best for that?

I would definately leave my gates open. Gonna be pretty hard to crack for most people anyway, even when I'm offline for an extended period of time =)

I know how you feel. I watched 2-3 mil troops splatter across my walls and only lost 70k pikes! I love this game.
Though I think I would find an account sitter while I am away, rather than just leave and hope for the best.

Well, depends on how deep you go. And me, well.... I go DEEP. At least that's what I've been told. So, yes, absolutely.

What about me? I live a surreal life with no schedule at all. Can I please please play your game?

Give me a break. Evony allows sitters. And I sincerely doubt any players are here with FAKE lives!oops barring the occaisional bot

What you are saying about Age II is for me the least thing I like about it.

Age II's advantages are many and the "real lives" advantage is there...but way down on the list.

The "real" advantage to Age II is the huge advance in strategy. There are a MULTITUDE of possible strategies. Age II is far more flexible! It is a thinking mans game.

The second advantage to Age II is it keeps people playing far longer than Age one. No more will a Top Player find himself surrounded pounded and conquered from a top player to 1 empty village in 15 minutes while he sits on the Johnny...forcing him to quit or start a new server. No more will a noob be instantly and forever smacked down the instant he leaves BP. He has a chance to learn the game.

The third advantage to Age II is a player is not bored to death simply making and farming NPC's 2000 times a day just to feed his army and have a chance.

The fourth advantage to Age II is not having to wait wait wait for a new server to open giving players who failed another chance to play the only fun part of age I...beginning to mid game.

The fifth advantage to Age II is armor! awesome!

The sixth advantage to age II is the Historical heros and Historical cities.

The seventh advantage to Age II is drafting. No loss pre built troops!

The eighth advantage to AgeII is FaceBook! WOW instant return on advertising for the game you play! What an incentive! Brilliant!

The ninth advantage to Age II is Graphics.

see??? I could go on and on before I get way down to the bottom of the list and say it is for "real" people with "real" lives. We are all "real" people JP. Sooner you realize that, the better your posts will be.

Yup, agreed. Age II is super duper complex and a thinking mans game. Extremely flexible and can be played by a wide range of people in a number of styles. I simply cannot say enough about the game. By far the best online strategy game I have ever played. And I have been playing video games since Pong and Atari....
