I agree, judgment of what you are allowed to do, should be entirely based on your ability to do so. For example take the legal drinking age in various country's around the world. In the U.S. its illegal for you to drink alcohol until you reach the age of 21, however if you are 18 and male it is a legal requirement that you sign up for the draft in addition it is perfectly legal to volunteer to fight for the military and die for the country. Finally, at the age of 18 your also "qualified" to vote for the next president.
In what way does that make any kind of sense? In addition, you may not obtain a CPL in the states until you turn 21 (in michigan, Indiana allows you at the age of 18 and has reciprocity with other states). But, you can join the military where you will essentially cary a weapon every day at the age of 18.
*shrug* My point is really that we shouldn't have laws against people doing certain things at certain ages.
