    Illegal in what sense?

I think people should have civil restitution for "agesim", in a very broad sense.

But, I don't think employers should be head criminally liable.

If you define illegal in a a more techincal sense I will be happy to further the disccussion.

I think it entirely depends on the individual circumstances. for example would you really put a 70 year old man into the infantry when he could hold everyone back and put lives at risk?

I think it should be based on your physical abilities, your intellectual capacity, and your level of maturity, not age.

Like being told by your parents that you can't watch pr0n because you're fiver years old?

I agree with Demonhero. You shouldn't be judged by your age, although a super-intelligent three year old seems a bit off...

I agree, judgment of what you are allowed to do, should be entirely based on your ability to do so. For example take the legal drinking age in various country's around the world. In the U.S. its illegal for you to drink alcohol until you reach the age of 21, however if you are 18 and male it is a legal requirement that you sign up for the draft in addition it is perfectly legal to volunteer to fight for the military and die for the country. Finally, at the age of 18 your also "qualified" to vote for the next president.

In what way does that make any kind of sense? In addition, you may not obtain a CPL in the states until you turn 21 (in michigan, Indiana allows you at the age of 18 and has reciprocity with other states). But, you can join the military where you will essentially cary a weapon every day at the age of 18.

*shrug* My point is really that we shouldn't have laws against people doing certain things at certain ages.

It also depends on what kind of person you are (I think).

In different countries, there are different opinions on what and what not to do. In Japan, fireworks are completely legal, although guns are prohibited. In America, Fireworks are illegal, although the Bill of Rights allows people to wield guns for their own safety.

See the diff? Throughout America's experiences, the people have felt that Fireworks were a hazard, but on the Japanese side, it has been a tradition to have fireworks on festivals, such as today, The day of the Sea. Due to the Revolutionary War and the experience with Britain, America felt that weapons were nessisary to protect yourself, but the Japanese government didn't allow it's citizens to wield or buy guns because they didn't want rebellion during the older eras.

As you see, different people have different Ideas, which is one of the reasons why some people may be ageist and other countries may not.

the reason for minimum age is usualy bassed on the fact that the brain doesnt finish fully developing untill you are in your early twenties. for this reason i support it, there is little other way to regulate the minimun common sense requirment for living. if a shrot test could be devised to fairly quantify the abilities of indivuals then age discrimanation could be done away with.
