    Whoa!

I know I'm late to this thread, but I am shocked.

"everything a leader should NOT be"???

I don't believe this! Please elaborate.

Granted that he liked his champagne in the morning, but a womanizer? Winston? That's just false.

There were rumors of Churchill's affairs but nothing ever substantial enough to make it completely believable except for the fact that he was a politician and liked to drink. The rumors were spread by his opposition and as always rumors are believed by the masses when it comes to public faces, specially ones that like their drink. This does not take away from the intellect or the accomplishments of the man.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it!

No, Churchill loved whiskey and cigars, not champagne.

    Hmmm, what a tough choice.

I would have to go with George Washington.
Not that he was the first president or that he won the Revolutionary War. In my eyes none of that was important, what was important was that he could lead. In face of many obstacles and problems, people willingly followed his command. That is a quality that is hard to come by, the ability to command such loyalty and undying devotion.

Is: Barack Obama - he gave the US a "face lift" after the Bush years.

I'm not commenting on Obama save to question his effectiveness... but then, what US President is effective?

I admire Hitler's genius while I deplore his inhumanity. Petain did a thankless job in Vichy France - he did it poorly, but that he was willing to serve is worthy of praise. Churchill was... amazing - and yes, he did drink champagne on occasion, especially while working through the night. So do I; wanna make something of it?

I'm not an FDR fan save personally; he was an inspiring leader but his social programs were in large part ineffective. Had he only listened to Keynes... *sigh*

My favorite US leader? Millard Fillmore.
His administration was one of the most corrupt in US history. His popularity was minimal and he created no sweeping social changes. On the other hand, his is the only American administration that had no major wars and suffered no major catastrophes. Tough to beat that record, IMO.

In all of history? Well... if we ignore J.R. "Bob" Dobbs, Lord Vetinari, and King Arthur, I'd have to say Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden, closely followed by Edward VII of England.

"The final solution" was not something they just thought about overnight, during the Nazi parties rise to power this was something that was in the works the whole time. So please get your facts straight before you start praising someone in history.

I respect Hitler's genius, his charisma(he was an excellent orater) and his artistic ability. But I do not think he was "great" and you should really reconsider the words you use to describe someone who wanted to kill every jew, every gypsy, every christian, the handicapped, every homosexual and was filled with pure hatred and racism.
Now, do you reeeeaaaallllllllyyyyyyy think Hitler was the only one to dislike jews? My grand grandmother hated jews, and she also hated the NS and Nazi (NS=Nasjonal Samling, the Norwegian Nazi party). She told me that one time when she was in Britain, she saw a mark on all jew stores in certain street in Manchester (Dunno the name). Everyday she passed, the locals said she should throw eggs on the marked houses.

And this is for you Montros. A picture made by Hitler:

You can't say he had bad artistic abilities.
