    Default The Value of Life

Is life invaluable? Does it have a price tag?

More importantly, is one life worth more than another and is it wrong to take a life?

    oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh good topic
i think all life has equil value, be it human, animal, plant or otherwise. but i also think that that value has its own individual price value as you put it. and i believe that the lifeform sets its price in all maters.
for example, i know what i will and wont give for certian things in life. i know what morality i'm willing to compramise and what i'm not, and for what cause i am willing to bend my ethacal beliefes.
no one could dictate such prices to me, some have tried and failed to do so. i choose my price, and when and where i will be "bought"
i believe all life is the same as my self in this respect.

    No.
    No.

Why? Because life begins and ends every second (and thats just on Earth). The birth and death of a star happens constantly throughout the cosmos. Do I value life? Yes, the people close to me and fellow humans.

Well... in the larger perspective, life matters not a jot. Its only purpose is to perpetuate life; therefore, if there was none, there would be no need, either.

Should we value life, though? I think, as a living being, we should, just because I'm naturally prejudiced in favor of life. And there's really no reason not to value life, at least a little.

She said it would only make us cold, and miserable, and sick.
We thanked her and hugged her and she walked away smiling warmly.

Ok, I say this scientifically: Yes we have a price tag. Everyone is worth 1$. Except me. I am worth -1$.

I thought with the price of gold and platinum and such being up, humans were now worth like $7? And of course, if you sell the body off for dissection that's a whopping $50, which is nothing compared to the profit to be made if you sell your parts off one at a time on the black market.

Human part like heart , lung , and liver can be a high price up to $50,000 in the black market

    Default Deep Thoughts

You cant put price tag on life at any point..... What you may see and deem as being a worthless life is someone elses father/mother, sister/brother and so on no matter how little of a postive impact they are making on society.

I have served in the military and fought in combat on numerous occasions and am still amazed at how hard you will fight to remain breathing. I have seen the life fade from the eyes of men and thier last gasp of breath of air being exhaled..... yes i would say it is immeasurable.

You see i lost my wife after 4 years of marriage and my son of 2 years of age lost his mother due to an unfortunate accident where another driver dropped his cell phone and crossed the median hitting her head on ending her young life and leaving me the only parent of our son. As i said i have seen death in many forms due to combat but the 2 hardest things i have ever done in my life is what i had to do after i had found out about my wifes death....... was to break the news to her mother and our son. Yeah that was hard, not something i would never wish on anyone. BTW my sone and i had each other and we are doing good.... you tend to learn alot about yourself in trying times. It has been several years since this happend and i am remarried to a wonderful woman as well that treats my son as she does her son and i consider him my son as well. You just have to put your faith in the correct place and believe in yourself . We had a little baby girl June 29th of 2009 so we were blessed even after the hard times.

You cant put a price tag on someones life because that price will be from your viewpoint only. The old saying comes to mind here "Ones mans junk is another mans treasure" One mans worth is in the eye of the beholder.

Is it right to take anothers life.... nothing about it is correct but when your in a self preservation situation it all goes out the window. You know when it happens it isnt right to do so and feel bad afterwards, and if you have a shred of humanity in you because you know you just killed someones loved one regardless of being an enemy.

I think life is to be regarded as priceless but will protect my loved ones with my very life so in essence thier life is worth my life so the price tag would be a life for a life

Of course as human beings we see human life as invaluable and even sacred.
Anyone who devalues human life has lost touch with their own humanity and the shared human experience.

There are those who place less value on plant and animal life, seeing it's value only in how we as human beings can make use of (exploit) it. There are others who see animal life as more valuable or sacred to the point of risking harm to other humans to try to protect animal life. But only a very few of the most extreme environmentalists value plant life above animal and human life but their dirty little secret is that even they need to eat and that involves exploiting other life forms for their own survival. The simple fact of the matter is that life feeds on life. We need to eat to survive and the foods we eat were (mostly)once alive. Even the chemical additives in modern foods are usually derived from organic sources.

I am more pragmatic and I prefer to look at the life of all things as being intertwined and inter-dependant. But as a human being I value human life above other types of life with one provision. That is this, life on this planet is a natural system with natural checks and balances. If we continue to do damage to the natural systems of life we will throw those systems out of balance and place all life on this planet, including all human life, into jeopardy. We are reliant on a healthy environment and healthy natural systems for our own continued survival.

At this stage in time a few things are becoming obvious. That is that life in our solar system seems to be limited to our planet and it's fortunate position in relation to our star. We are also learning that the conditions that allow life to prosper on this planet are not common in other parts of our galaxy that we can research. So far there has not been one other planet found that we can say may support life as we know it. We are also learning that travelling through space to even the outer reaches of our own solar system is difficult and takes a long time and travelling to a distant star system will require a major new technological breakthrough or it will remain impractical and so slow as to render it implausible. To me that spells out one thing clearly. We need to value the life of this planet, in total, far higher than we do at the moment, or we risk our own and all other life's extinction.

So does life have a value? I think it does to us. Would the universe care if we were to die out? Probably not at all. In fact, unless the sun was to go nova, I doubt if any other advanced life in the universe would even notice. The universe itself would not feel any remorse at all. Other stars have gone nova in the past and others will in the future. We are totally insignificant to the universe as a whole. It is far too big and far too old to be bothered with our minor role in it. Once we learn to accept that we can begin to appreciate our place and our planet and look to finding ways to sustain life into the distant future.

In general, I think life doesn't have a price tag. But I do think some people's lives can be value'd more than others. The way I see it is, We all start out at the same value ( at birth) now what we do after determines our value. I personally value a charitable person's life a lot more than, for example, a man who rapes minors, etc.

Not to be a "I hate elderly's" type of person, but I think the youth's lives should be valued more than that of the elderly. The way I see it is, elderly's have basically lived their life for the most part, a younger person on the other hand, has their whole life ahead of them.

I'm not sure this all made sense or answered the op's question... but thats my 2 cents
