    Default Sca

A few friends of mine are involved in the local SCA club/kingdom/whatever and have recently asked me to come to a meeting/event/whatever.

Personally I am a bit leery of doing this. Aside from my friends all the other SCA people I have had contact with seemed to have trouble seperating real life from fantasy.

Another aspect that turns me off is the non-historical part of it all. Before I go on a little bit of personal background. I am a history nut and have been participating in historical reenactments (WW2) for the past 6 years now. My friends have tried to appeal to my love of history by trying to frame their group as a historical society. I just don't buy it.

So, my question to all of you: Should I go? Am I being a bit too judgemental?

Societies like the SCA freak me out. It's one thing to learn the history and maybe re-enact it to get a better understanding, but it's another to actually role-play the situation.

I could never get into the whole "Renaissance Fair" thing. They just seem reeeeally weird to me. What's so wrong with the present that you have to pretend like you're living 500 years ago?

Same here. Still, I do enjoy going to the local Renn Faire every year.

Society for Creative Anarchism? Or something along those lines. Basically it is a massive club where the different chapters get together and roleplay a fantasy world.
