This is going to be fun.
a) Whatever strategy you use that doesn't involve farming NPCs will be squished with the flick of my wrist. I am wondering, what strategy do you use to fight someone who has 700k cav, 1m archers 100k ballista 500k sword, but remember, no farming!
b) those of us who challenge people who are able to play the game with skill have no problems taking over NPCs from 20,50,75 or even 100 miles away. They'll park themselves right next to your city. I pick fights with skilled people, but those people who take over lvl 9s or 10s have a disadvantage in they have no walls! But mindless porting in a fully walled 25m an hour war city 4 miles away from you while you're sleeping, is a quick way to lose people. I don't need Evony adding more risk to the game, im perfectly able to create my own risk.
c) I have decided that without some safe zone buffer between my city and the war city that just ported in, nobody will last long. No matter what my defenses are, a (good) war city, by its very definition will always have more. From every game i'v played, when alliances or guilds fail, half the players leave the game. This is even more so in Evony because if you lose a lot of your cities or best heros it will take months to get back to that stage. Simply not worth it to many players.
So if you actually decide to fight people with skill, you'll quickly learn you'll want all the buffer you can get. Flats opening up in the middle of the night 1 to 5 miles from your city will either A) make you quit after losing a city or two ever night, B) will make you lose your job due to having to wake up at 3:30am every day or C) simply encourage more logging on other accounts to defend while you sleep.
