The guy I attacked had more prestige than I do, so one would expect that he would be able to defend himself. It's not like I attack total newbies or anything, though I am myself still very much a newbie. I'm not targeting a specific alliance, and I am mostly attacking people with more prestige than me, so what's the problem? Just a whiny alliance leader that complained to a wimpy alliance leader?
That's the problem, and eventually you will find someone who not only hits you back, but calls in their friends and has some fun with your alliance. Even someone you can knock over easily can have friends that will nail you and your alliance to the wall in retaliation.
If you want to play lone cowboy attacking high prestige players without taking into consideration what might happen to your alliance because of who you attack, then you don't deserve to be in an alliance. If you simply don't care, then you definitely shouldn't be in an alliance.
I have a feeling you aren't telling us the whole story.
But....the eternal ray of sunshine REALLY wanted to see you, so I helped brighten your day by removing the city from around you! ^.^
