Thread: Level 12 HC - Archer Trade Fire

Default Level 12 HC - Archer Trade Fire

I have heard a lot about getting archer trade-fire when attacking a lvl 12 HC. (This, for those who don't know, is when your archers are able to attack the defending archers. and not getting archer trade fire can cost you 100k archers I have heard). I don't (and I think many other players don't) understand the concepts behind achieving this but by reading the forums it seems there are many good players who understand this well. Perhaps they would be willing to discuss the topic further for the rest of us.

To achieve trade-fire with opposing Archers you must 3-shot or 1-shot the opposing Cavs.

Killing cavalry is easy, killing swordmen is easy, killing pikemen is easy, killing warriors is easy, killing rams is easy. There is absolutely nothing to this but simply outranging them, getting free shots on them, until they get within range and kill you.

So the only thing that's not easy, is killing defending archers. They have a range of 2400 while attacking archers have a range of 1800. You need to prevent them from getting a free shot on you.

Rest is just brute force and correct layering

yep because remember, if both attacking and defending Archers move, a gap of 1000 has been closed in. That is where you must hit. If only one side moves for some reason, D. Archers will have a nice open shot at your Archers before you can even touch them.

Is this assuming compass 10? (I left my compas at 9 b/c of controversy).

And is it either 3shot or 1 shot but not 2 shot the cavs, or can you 1, 2, or 3 shot the cavs.

Assuming lvl 10 techs, can you ballpark hero attack level and leadership and ammount of defending cavs to accomplish 1 shot the cavs?

Would it be safe to just use wars to kill the cavs down to maybe 10k assuring a 1shot kill on the cavs with almost any good spearhead hero?

Would you mind saying what happens idealy in a battle where you acheive archer trade fire on a round per round basis? This may be too much to ask but I woudl like to know what happens on each round, who attacks who who moves what etc. when you acheive tradefire (and even tradefire vs nontrade fire).

I have used all level 10 techs in any calculations I've done. I'm pretty sure that's the way to go.

If you 2 shot the Cavs, you will end up hitting Swordsmen continually, and D. Archers will sit there and fire at you. Not a good idea.

Cavs have a Effective Life of 1338 with a hero with 300 Intel(which is what i got from my tests). That means to one-shot Cavs, you would need Almost 2800 attack(assuming your sending 120k Archers and there is 108k left) because the first shot against Cavs is at 50% range. It's almost impossible to one-shot Cavs unless you are dealing with re-spawns.

Just go for the 3-shot kill every time. Much Much easier.

This is really about understanding the combat engine in general. So you need to start with the threads on this forum that explain how the combat engine works. Honestly, I don't think very many people understand the combat engine at all, despite the fact that the relevant threads are perfectly visible on page 1 of this forum for anyone to read.

Archer tradefire is a concept that can only properly be understood once you got the rest of the basics down in the combat system.
