Crime is something poor and ignorant people resort too because they know of no better way to make something of themselves. Alot of people look for that easy buck, and what better way than to take what isnt yours

in britian more crimes are not done by the poor but mostly anyone that has been under social services..
i fine it funny that you tech your kids not to talk to strangers.. then whats happens social services come and talk to them then put them with strangers (trust me i know happened to me) they lose all there mates and everything.. so that probs the main reason they commit crimes
Well in that sense it is a bad influence that steers people wrong. Teens and young adults are extremely vulnerable to peer pressure, and you combine that with being poor and having a low education and you have someone that can be talked into doing anything.
It is the basis of gangs on the street, you have 1 guy who runs the show and never gets his hands dirty and a bunch of goons that are used to make that paper doing all sorts of crimes just to make bones and impress the higher ups.
I think we need to remove the word "crime" from this and replace it with "things". A crime is simply something that against the law. Eating other humans is against the law in America. But in Papua New Guinea there is no law against eating other humans, so it is not a crime. Yet, most humans twinge at the thought of eating others. So I think it would be better to ask, 'What compels humans to do things that seem unimaginable to MOST other humans?'
So to answer that I would say:
Everybody is different. What you view as horrific, distasteful or unimaginable may not bother another person at all. In fact, they may enjoy eating human body parts and think there is just nothing wrong with it. Or they may enjoy violence and being in a gang.I really have no idea what compels a grown man to rape a 5 year old girl or a serial killer to cut the heads off people and arrange them in a circle. And I really have no idea why some people would want to have s3x with a dead person. Or why a person robs a bank in broad daylight. Or things like these. To answer that question is to understand their mindset, to understand how they think and so on. Professionals who have studied the human mind for years and profile abnormal people (abnormal being people who do not behave and act like most other people) ask that question everyday and spend their entire life trying to come up with answers. I really don't think there is an answer. I really don't think normal people could understand it no mater how hard we studied the abnormal person or no matter how hard the abnormal person tried to explain it. Some things we just can't understand. For lack of a better word I'll just say normal people cannot understand "crazy" people.

I think that a sense of 'Can I do this?' also plays a bit of a factor. I mean, I'm not going to go out and beat someone half to death just to see how long I can elude police, but there are times I read a book, and wonder "If it came down to it, could I do it?"/rerail
Special Props To Don Ezio for this!
In war, victory. In peace, vigilance. In death, sacrifice.
