That is a better question, to which I answer life itself.
You cannot have life experience with out life.

Also the human brain doesn't allow sorrow to compound. Elsewise everybody would be miserable all the time. Every pet that has died, every rejection, every bit of disappointment would just build adding onto itself until you commit suicide by time you are twenty.
i suppose this is right. but since there is not enough information in the question, it is hard for me to choose one, without knowing any other information.
but i also, would feel it would be my duty to save the child, as he/she cant care for himself as a grown man can.

maybe it makes a difference that I have 6 young relations under the age of 6..soon to be 7

That contains a massive assumption that the mind wouldn't find a way to adapt to the compounding of sorrow- it is entirely possible that the human mind would learn to live with compounding sorrow indefinitely.

    Damn, you are right.

Well, maybe it would be better if I just told you the situation in my RP that elicits this question. Too late for that now.

How often do you think about the first pet of yours that died?

But if you saved neither that would be even worse, as you let two lives go, on purpose. This woudl be uncommon for someone to do, unless they were unusually cold hearted.

not that im calling anyoen cold hearted
