Now, is this REALLY an issue? The extra materials? For the average player, no. But 5 years down the road it may well be an issue. But who knows what will change 5 years down the road. Maybe Evony will have made Age III by then. Who knows. But for now, I don't see excess materials as an issue.

P.S. And you'd be surprised to know what you can accomplish playing from a colonized position. Just different styles of play my man. Every warrior has their weapons of choice. You may laugh at the warrior who uses a long long stick while you hold a sword. But if they know how to use the staff well you may find yourself on the losing end of a fight.
you really are clueless and dont pay attention to what you say do you? you say at 20 materials a day it would take 3 months to get all the materials, well guess what... NA1 IS MORE THEN 3 MONTHS OLD! and that doesnt even count the 100s you could get a day from valleys before the nerf. with a few hundred scouts and a low level valley next to your city, you could easily attack that valley 300 times an hour, much more if you were really on top of your abandoning, and guess what else dropped alot more during this time... AMULETS! so even back when the game was new spining 40 ammys was very possible, guy in my alliance would get 100+ a day. so yes, this is really an issue more then you think, as far as your 2% bet, does that mean 2% of people that have excess in all materials? or 2% that have excess in at least 1? because getting excess in the horse and wood is pretty easy seeing as the limited use of them, wouldnt surprise me if half of NA1 has excess in the horse. as far as what a casual player has and gets, well you get what you put into the game, if people dont attack, they receive drops less, plain and simple. you probably havent attacks valleys 300 times total, let alone 300 times an hours. you really should stick to stuff you know, which currently doesnt seem like much.

ps- you laugh while being colonized playing with your stick people, i laugh while i draft thousands of troops from my colonies daily. hide them if you want, if i get 0 from the city i scout the valleys around the city, find and kill them.
