For someone who have never really played Age 1 it is best that you keep your comments to yourself. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!
As far as Age 2 is concerned, you yourself have said that positioning is everything. Why would I want to join and Age 2 server 6 months after it has opened? All the good positions will have been taken by this time.
Since I HAVE PLAYED BOTH Age1 and 2, I would rather start on a Age 1 server than and Age 2 server that is 6 months old.
See that is an opinion I made because I HAVE played both games.
Well, I actually do agree that you can start late on an ageII server and be just fine. I did and I still managed to learn and grow on my server. I joined Evony w/o really knowing what it was so I had no idea that I should look for a new server. I just took what it suggested. I don't agree, however, that evony will never need to make anymore ageII servers. My server is pretty darn crowded as it is. I would hate for it to be the default newb spawning ground.
Oh, and as far as having tons of threads about this same subject (and others), I'd just like to say:

although the original premise is unfounded, I agree with the argument. It is relative suicide to attempt to start late and grow your forces in Age1. In Age2 it is very possible since opponents cant wipe out your cities and destroy them all from under you. You may be colonized but you will still have some of your wall defenses, all most all of your forces, and all your cities, and all your resources when you log back in some time later.
It makes for a nice situation for players who are offline for more than a few hours at a time. Its the main reason that people like Age2 since its not devastating.
I played on server 2 when it first came out and built up to huge forces in a strong alliance. We literally destroyed other strong opposing players who had like 8-10 cities all well defended. We teamed up and each destroyed a city and flipped it to NPC and when the player got back online sometime later, his large empire was down to 1 city with zero resources zero loyalty and zero hope.
I quit Age1 as a princessin with 10 cities full stocked. I didnt like the idea that players can literally force other players to quit a game that they enjoy playing. In Age2 they cant. Everyone has a chance to play and keep playing without the threat of total devastation.
Its like the game of musical chairs. You eliminate all the other players and sit in the last chair all by yourself with no one left to play with. Your only option is to quit and start over like a game of Monopoly.

I can honestly say I'd rather start an age1 account late in server life then on age2.
JP makes it sound like starting on age1 severs late can't be done, but I'v started late on age1 servers twice before(once I think it was more then 3 months) and I did just fine both times.
It is relative suicide to attempt to start late and grow your forces in Age2. You can position yourself close to a HC just in time to see someone else claim it, and draft from you untill you port away. More then likly you'll be colonized the first day your out of BP, and you can pay tribute.. yay? Think it's fair to say that not playing in a colonized position is more appealing to like 99% of the games pop. Sure you can break free from a suzrain, but who the hell in there right mind wants to join a server they know they'll be colonized on. If you joined NA1-10 right now you would have a 99% chance you would be colonized within a week, now if you have been colonized by a smart, active player thats been on the server from day one or week one, and you don't exploit game mechanics like JP then you'll probly nvr free yourself, you will infact pay tribute, and hide troops in vallys forever... sounds very appealing right?
Like I said, i'v nvr started on age1 from day one, or even from month one, but I would nvr start on a age2 server even 3 or 4 weeks after the server started, JP's talking about servers that are 3 months old, that really is suicide.
EDIT: Better?

1. You don't hide troops in valleys
2. Most players who join Age II late will be colonized, period. So learning to play from that position is essential.
3. Being colonized is a FAR CRY from having your city taken from you and turned into a NPC like players can do to you in Age I.
4. Getting colonized is not suicide.
What would you rather have? Someone destroy all of your cities and turn them into NPC's or just take them over 100% or pay 10% of recources by getting colonized?
And you are arguing that scenario 1 is better?
