Our choice of measurement for every dimension is entirely arbitrary. Time would still "be."
Look at how we measure math (base 10 system)....
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20.
Let's say there's a civilization with a base 8 system instead...
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20.
In our system, 7+7=14
In the other, 7+7=16
Both are correct answers, even though they are different numbers. The measurement system in the two number lines is totally arbitrary, but the MATH is still the same. No matter what number system you use... when you add the 7th number on the number line to itself, you will answer with the 14th number on the number line.
Time measurement is the exact same way.
Our hours/minutes/second, etc. are just haw we measure time. We could change to some oddball metric time with 10 hour days, and give each hour 100 minutes, and give each minute 100 seconds. The definitions of minutes and hours and seconds would change, but the actual measurement of time would not. The only thing that changes are the terms we use to communicate observations of time to each other.
I completely agree with you. I can guarantee you that there are dimensions we exist in, that we don't know about yet. As our race's knowledge grows, we will find and define and measure these dimensions, too.
