Thread: Join or Die

Join or die is pointless to me. If I can spank you easily, why would I want you in my alliance?

That being said, if I do battle with someone, and despite coming out on top, they demonstate being a formidable foe, I would certainly "offer" them a spot in my alliance. At that point they make their own decision. Should they choose to decline, I would then tell them, in order to enjoy your gameplay in the future, you would be best to port out of my immediate area.

Get the best team you can surround yourself with, either make a dent and get bolstered to your ranks with new fresh active warmongers, or be repelled by the better, in which some might get the honour of being invited to the victor.
It's a social game I would be suprised to hear of more than a few people who can casualy change sides without consideration for their former comrades or the attacks their new comrades have previously made on them.

You should base loyalty on the friendships you've made in game. Not on who can kick your *. I know it's just a game but would you act that way in the real world? Oh that guy is tougher and / or smarter than me cause he just beat me up, now I'm going to follow him around and do what he says! And feel honored? The logic doesnt quite wash with me.

    Default Join or Die

I never word it like that, but has been a good strategy throughout Evony. I have some of my best and loyal players that way and some that eventually left, mutually, to VH or Host another alliance after better teaching. If you are too close or in the middle of an alliance group, a move can be good.

I NEVER argue over NPC radius, I find it distasteful...as players can farm in different directions or 8 hours apart. But many do fight over NPC fields. They are NOT owned by anyone, even if made by someone. They are populated by barbarians. If you see anywhere in Evony that you 'own' an NPC,pls point it out.

Join or die should be left for players to close to you personally and benefit both

Interesting, I feel the exact opposite. The NPC's belong to the person who's army earns them, in my opinion. If I build a farm field, and anyone farms it, we are going to fight. If you win, I'll have no choice to relinquish the field. Otherwise, build your own field and stop looking to poach off of those who already have.

Interesting. This is the first I've ever heard of it. As far as my alliance goes, we are a band of killers, and the last thing we'd want is to force farmers to join us, or to lord over an alliance of farmers. When we are fighting an enemy alliance, we like to practice "**** or die".

Basically we'll tell our victims to drop alliance to turn their flag white, or port away. If you turn your flag white to us, we'll generally leave you alone unless you are leeching off our barbarians or you just make yourself too good of a target for a resource grab.

That's all we need. Alliances are dangerous, while disconnected individuals are not. In war we're not there to subjugate you, just to defeat you. To defeat you, all we need to do is shatter your alliance. If we force an alliance to break up, we win bragging rights, and the whole server knows about it.

We know that if we were to try to subjugate our enemies, to force them to play on our terms, then they'll either quit or just bide their time and rebel. So we're satisfied to make you port. Every time you burn a truce or a teleporter on us, we win, because we just cost you something of value. We'll chase you down, keep beating on you, and always tell you that you can make it stop if you just quit your alliance.

Really? The acronym for "Get The F--- Out" is censored? Overkill on the filter much?

Crap like this makes me hate America. There're far worse things to worry about than that.

If a person is willing to leave thier alliance cause they got beat on, i definately wouldnt want them to come to my alliance. What happens when someone else comes knocking on thier door again to "Join or die." If they were willing to trade one alliance, there would be no hesitation to betray you.

The problem with the whole 'join or die' thing is that it promotes mob mentality and bully-ism. Groups that learn they cannot survive on their own, and should probably disband, gain a new courage when backed and assisted by all in their new coalition - 500 children can defeat the strongest of men. This creates a domino effect because while most won't openly admit to having been subjugated, they either know that they aren't able to resist or simply like being able to 'win' now, and they in turn force the same on others.

Soon the whole map turns blue, and the controlling alliance picks which of its subjects will be the next to be excommunicated and squashed by the rest. Alliances shrink/fold by simple attrition, and the cycle repeats. Personally, I find as little enjoyment in a non-challenging 'war' as I do in being the victim of the coalition, or maybe less. At least as the victim you have a challenge.

Bitter? Perhaps. I see this very scenario playing out now. The top 25 alliances (excepting ours), and quite a few smaller ones, have fallen into a coalition against us. Soon many will quit and move on to another server and the rest can just farm their alts.
