I'm pretty sure its a language barrier.
When I first played Final Fantasy I for NES, they had some pretty funky monster names in there. The Goblins were called Imps, and there was just a lot of crossover of mythical names.

as a side note. i think that JRR Tolken berated CS Lewis for crossing mythologies in his Narnia series, because he had not only greek but roman charictiors in one land
That's because JRR Tolkien really grew up in that world. OMG, with all the language he created, and the songs, and the whole side mythology all wrapped into that one (no pun intended) storyline, this guy had to be from the dimension of the Shire!

they were in a writters club together, and all the authers from it say they got ideas and feed back from eachother there. i'd have LOVED to waite tabels at that pub!!
