So you are arguing that the few are benefiting while the many suffer? How is that better?I would argue that government dependency is the few depending on the many, not the other way around. As it is a small portion of the population that has always benefited from dependency on the government compared to the large portion of the population who pay taxes for it. For instance, with security, NY city is a high risk place. People in CA pay federal taxes to help protect NY city, people in the hills of Arkansas pay taxes to help protect NY city and so forth.
I would rather have my own independence and the ability to support and defend myself, rather then lie helpless while the government does it for me. Helplessness is not good, cowardness is not good and weakness is not good.Everyone would like to know that when they travel within this country, they are safe, they would like to know that if they walk downtown they are safe. When their kids go to school the kids are safe. Now for dependency on the government, how many parents do you want standing around a school with guns to ensure their childs safety? I know I don\'t want anyone except for law enforcement of some other government agency guarding any school with a gun. Same goes for many places, I would rather have an officer or military on patrol than people with guns patrolling an area that is considered high risk. Same with monitoring, I would rather have my government monitor my actions than someone who thinks they have the right to. Why? Because if I have done nothing wrong there is nothing for me to fear.
I don't mind having the law enforcement around, because it is necessary to an extent, but to a far lesser degree then I think liberty is needed, but if I had to choose between Anarchy and a police state, I would choose Anarchy.
As for monitoring, you have done nothing, but it is not just the wrong and illegal that one desires privacy for. There are simply embarrassing things, expensive things, things to do with your job, suspicious but not illegal things, all that is being collected without privacy rights, do you really want to have the obscenities you muttered that one time about that one family member you don't like recorded for posterity? And not to mention the security aspect, imagine if something like wiki leaks occurred with all that personal information?
All this risk even assuming a perfectly uncorrupted and trustworthy government.
What point is life if you are a prisoner within your own country? Nothing more then a pig in a pen, thats not life, thats undeath.
Give me liberty or give me death was not said lightly.
