Thread: My sister is a midget.

Default My sister is a midget.

My sister, 25 years old, informed me yesterday that in the state of Virginia she is considered legally handicapped because of her height. Anyone 4'10" or shorter can apply for some sort state benefits or extra-ordinary privileges like handicap parking permits or something to help overcome their height disability.

She's 4' 9.5" tall and has gotten through life perfectly fine so far. I told her to do it. Those handicap parking spots are super time savers when you're just running in to get some pop-tarts or a pack of smokes. She says I'm stupid.

She doesn't want to apply, Awesomeness5577.

Mumbled something about being embarrassed to be seen in public with handicapped license plates.

Just because you can do something, does not mean you should.

If your sister has no actual disability, then she doesn't need a handicapped tag (even if her height qualifies her). Does it cause her pain to walk more than 100 feet? Does she have cumbersome equipment like a wheelchair that might be difficult to move too far? Is she anemic, causing her to have no energy and get exhausted quickly? There are people with real needs out there. Everyone that congests the handicapped spots just because they can is not helping.

I've never seen every handicapped spot taken ever, especially the farther away ones.

No....to all your questions, Rota. She's just really short and really really fat.

I think it's more than just getting great parking spots though. I mean, real disabled people get more than just the sweet parking spots at Wal-Mart. Off the top of my head, I don't know what else she would be eligible for.

When my mom got her handicapped tag, I actually started to take notice. I occasionally chauffeur for her errands. I drop her off and don't park in the handicapped spots. But, I began to take notice of who does park there. I can't count the number of perfectly mobile people that use those spaces. It's just saddening.
