OK; I get the general idea of what you're saying.

Now, I'd like to propose an hypothesis:
The OT continues to exist because Evony management understands that it's an excellent idea to have a place for the paranoid and the passionate to blow off steam.

There's a thread to suggest improvements; that's a good spot for the more thoughtful to comment on the game, but it's also an ideal pressure release for those that become frustrated. (Not a criticism; it wouldn't be a strategy game if people didn't get frustrated.) This place, by logical exension, would exist as a pressure release for those that get frustrated with the forums. Without it, the forums would become chaotic and the frustration levels caused thereby would reduce the effectiveness of this place.

Of course, if the Matrix Parallax holds true, the system will generate its own solution as a manifestation of the agency of chaos. This solution will be a powerful forum poster with the ability to bend time and space to his or her will, perhaps even known as The One.

Beware, for the coming of The One will mark an age of great change; what we see shall not survive as it stands.

An O-T exists here only because it's standard practice in all game site's forum. And this O-T came very close to being shut down before. It may still happen...
It's a well known fact that the site directors, with the notable exception of Dawnseeker, do not give a hoot in hell for the forum as a whole anyway.

I wonder if they know how well spidered this forum is. I get better search results for my game name due to this forum than for my real blog O_O. Hummm but then again maybe we don't want them to really know . . .

I agree with Wildor. OT is here because the developers looked at other online games and saw that all of their forums had a section like this. To their own detriment they have since then ignored this section unless there has been drama that reflects badly upon them or their game. The reason why online games have forum sections like this is to help build a sense of community by giving a place to interact in a fun way in a controlled enviroment.

I think my first post in this thread summed it up. It's a party in a padded cell.

1. Represent our company in any way
2. Be a place for players to blow off steam or post their opinions on the game
3. Be connected or supported by our company in any way
4. Hosted or managed by us

What I WOULD allow is:
1. A forum to be run by fans.

Saying that, I appreciate the Evony forums and understand that a community has developed here. The internet helps make new types of social networks/communities and we need to allow them to exist.

Ok, well that's why you aren't and will NEVER run a successful game company.

Lucas Arts has their own forum.
Jagex with their multitude of games have their own forum.
EA has their own forum.
Many other browser based games have their own forum.

Guess what? Most of them are set up pretty much the same, and they're all run by the company. Please, gather some knowledge on the subject before you post on it.
