A game is entertainment, the entertainment business. Just like music and movies and so on. I do not see music and movie owners creating, hosting and managing online social groups. Fan sites do that. Why should games be any different?
Does it matter if the game company hosts and manages the online social facilitators? Why cant a third party do that so the game company does not need to spend time and money hassling with it?
I am not saying that forums and social facilitators are bad. I am saying that entertainment companies have no business hosting or managing them because that is not what they do. That is not their business.
