everyone here is falling in under the "i stand out" band wagon, so let me post a story for everyone under the "fit with the in crowd" band wagon.
once upon a time there was a little princess who wanted so badly to be loved by everyone around her that she decided never to be anything that other people didnt like. she wore the cloths that her friends and family thought looked best on her and never formed any opinions on fashion for her self. she had her hair done like all the other little girls at court weather or not it looked good on her.
she was kind, caring and considerate to her friends, family, servants, subjects, tutors, the village elders... everyone. there was not a thought in her head that someone else didnt put there. at the same time she felt she was missing out on something. when the subject of princes came up amoungst her friends she quietly made up her mind to be everything to her prince by letting him decide who she would be. if he wanted her to talk and think she would learn then to talk and think in ways that would best please him. if he wanted her to dance and sing she would learn then his favorite songs and dances so as to always get them right. if he wanted to leave home for months at a time waging war or hunting, she would learn to ride and shot if that please him or occupy her time in his castle if it did not.
thus by keeping her personalty fairly undeveloped she would insure that whom ever her father married her to she would be perfect for him and they would live happily ever after. her plan how ever failed. the prince she was married to was wise enough to know that each person must be who they are and no one else. he urged her to find out what would make her happy. the things in life that she would enjoy.
the princess slowly learned who she truly was and felt more herself then ever before. she never stood out in a crowd of princesses, but she didnt mind. because she had learned the truth of herself and felt that each other princess in that crowd was going through the same thing. you dont have to stand on a roof top to shout to the world who you are. as long as you know thats enough for the world.
the moral of the story is, be your self weather you stand out for it or not.
