I would suggest combining the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland but that would never happen because all "The Troubles" would be in full swing again. Besides, they're probably better off being with the United Kingdom anyway.

They are the two largest countries by landmass. They would have control of more than 18% of the worlds land mass. Together they would span 18 time zones!!!! People would wake up in one part of the country as people in another part were going to bed.
If we toss in Greenland, then the country would have nearly total control of the Arctic circle. That would also expand it's breadth by another 3 time zones for a total of 21!!!!
