Well thats why I like a progression approach... you abandon town, it turns into a level 1 flat with a few minor units... and then it grows... but not turn instantly into something that was quite possibly larger than the original city that was just abandoned in a split second...
plus this would change the landscape and keep open spaces constantly around each server for new players to join in... instead of each server slowly becoming choked off and a mass of barb towns... lots of which as players grow, will not even be farmed because they are so small its not worth the effort to them anymore...
