    There's a big difference between 'the reality of army caps being necessary' and suggesting 'realistic army caps'.

    But since you opened that other can of worms... in the real world army #s would be capped below total population, assuming you had to rely on your own population for conscripts, and weren't using mercenaries.

    On the other hand, army #s and troop quality also varies greatly in the real world. A large country, or kingdom (if talking historic reality), could have a very small percentage of their population conscripted, while a smaller country or kingdom has a very large percentage of their population conscripted. And armies are raely equal in terms of quality. Usually they vary in degrees of quality of training, and quality of equipment.

    Personally, I see nothing wrong with letting some people build larger armies if they want to make the effort to do so. But I think it should require a huge effort, and shouldn't be something that would come without sacrifice. So I think an overall cap that makes everyone equal would be bad. As long as everyone has equal potential, and the upper scale of that potential is challenging to reach and maintain, then things are good.
