The reality of army caps being unnecessary
By limiting the number of troops one can sustain in a city you give all of the power to the alliances that have active members and remove it from the individual player completely.
In the previous system any one player could allways effectively defend himself from anything with skill and timing as the largest army that could ever be sent at him/her was 125k units. Even a full alliance attack could be weathered with more damage being done to the attackers by opening/closing gates. This made the use of ninja scouts and timing extremely important.
By limiting the size of the army one person can have after one open gate attack your army will be reduced to nearly nothing without reinforcements after just the first attack. So no one player will ever be able to survive an alliance attack in this system. Let alone one on multiple cities. All the power will be in the hands of the players with the largest alliances and the skill required to stay on top will be greatly reduced.
Why is this bad? It makes for a no skill system other than the ability to attract large numbers of players to your alliance. Once you have that alliance you can dictate what happens from there crushing anyone who has a problem with you even if they are online.
Eventually all of the world will be one alliance/sister with what ever alliances they made and a whole lot of barb cities. There will be no one left to fight and we would all be able to hug each other daily and not click any buttons because all of our buildings will be maxed and we will be at our troop caps.
In the old/semi current system any one skilled player would have the ability to survive and thrive with or without an alliance as he would allways have the ability to not only defend himself but cause more damage to his enemies than he sustained himself.
What does that mean? It means he could replace what he lost and build upon those numbers in the same time it took his enemies to just replace their losses. Well what about later game when someone has the ability to send 125k catapults at you you ask? Well they're damn slow and you just close your gates for a battle no biggie. Well what about 600k catapults waved? Same answer they're too slow to ever be able to do a city conquer no matter how close your enemy may be.
Summary.
Proposed system- No one has any enemies left end game and we're all one big happy alliance logging in daily to hug and not build any army or buildings.
Old System-Armies every where, epic battles around every corner and the power is still in the hands of the individual player. Alliances help greatly but are never over powered. People are'nt afraid of risking it all on an attack because they will allways have more to send making it fun with banter even possible with your enemies.
Most importantly you'll still allways have a reason to log in as there will allways be more buttons to "smash"
