Its either drink an energy drink or walk around drunk with sleep deprivation. At least the crash happens usually later in the day.

are those really your only options? you cant go to bed at a "reasonable hour" and get up with enough time to come fully awake before the demands of your day start, well, demanding things of you?

    how bout no.

because if you dont treat your body with respect and a view for the future, its sure as hell no one else will.

This is the 21st century, five hours of sleep is the closest to a good nights sleep anybody is going to get. Prime Time doesn't end until 10-11 PM, it takes about 1-2 hours to go to sleep once you lay down and you need to get up 4-6 AM.

There is no room there for a full night's sleep. I use caffeine gum, but its the same principle as an energy drink.

Of course you could reduce your life to just "Work, eat, sleep". But then that isn't a life worth living.

i got to bed at a reasonable hour, get 6-8 hours of sleep, work full time, and still have time to come here and argue with you about whose life is more meaningful.
sure i dont watch tv. i gave that junk up years ago. and do you know why? because it was eating my life and i wasnt getting a darn thing out of it. hours of my life where i couldnt account for anything i had thought.
you know who else cant account for hours of their life? people who are possessed by voldermort. thats right i went there. if you watch tv your asking to be possessed by HE WHO MUST NOT BE NAMED your brain is ingesting tones of toxic ideas about people and how you should relate to them.
but you know what. you go right a head and chew your heart attack gum and watch your brain cancer. i'm going to go for a walk in nature and write a book and make out with a tree thanks.

    Lucky tree.

Anyway...I don't drink energy drinks. (Unless isotonics count that is.) I don't exactly need them. I may be tired sometimes with my average night consisting of 5 hours sleep but I just kind of plough on. I also don't drink them because of the health implications already listed by a few people.

I tried to go find nature once, couldn't find it. Couldn't walk for five minutes without coming across a fire road, power line or other people walking. So I have given it up. And you are almost certainly in the minority of people who got really lucky.

    Energy drinks?
    Chemical soup in a can.

It takes some very clever marketing and some very gullible public to sell this rubbish. Most of them don't even taste good. I could almost understand drinking a bunch of chemicals if it tasted good but most of them taste like, chemical soup.

So you drink them for the energy. What energy is that? Well there is usually a big percentage of sugar, so you might get a bit of a sugar high and some short-term enrgy boost. Caffiene? No extra energy there, sorry. Caffiene just increases blood pressure and heart rate. Overdose on caffiene and you feel like you are going to die.

I will let you in on a little secret. The secret ingredient that gives your energy a boost is water. Yes, water. It doesn't even have to be special mineral spring water in a fancy bottle to be good for you. Straight out of the tap water is just as good for boosting energy and your general health.

Now I like coffee. I like the taste. I like to drink coffee in the mornings. I don't need coffee to wake up properly. If I did, then I would probably have to admit that I have a mild coffee addiction. It might only be a phsycological addiction based upon the fact that I like coffee and miss it if I don't have it, or it might be a full-blown physical addiction that means I need coffee to feel normal.

That is the nature of addiction. A real addict takes their drug of choice, not to feel something special, but just to feel normal. If you need to drink an energy drink to feel normal, then you may be addicted to that energy drink. In that case, the drink is not giving you anything except bad feelings when you don't have it and that is time to quit.

Try drinking more water. It really is an energy drink.
    PEACE

    + water is sexy.

seriously though, i agree with Rod. water is your bodies best friend. and while its possible to overdose on anything, water is one that your not likely to OD on unless your drinking gallons a day and not keeping your electrolytes in balance with it.
there's a reason athletes drink water and Gatorade. and that reason is Healthy Energy.
