oregon doesnt put florid in the water even in the city. and the amounts they put in are so small. its like buying salt and then haveing someone say "you know they iodis that stuff" and your looking at it going "oh man i had no idea they were messing with my salt, i better buy that Kosher stuff" and then you get sick and cant figure out why.
if you live in an area where they dont floridify the water your pediatrician will prescribe florid drops for your kid.

Personally I'm not a huge fan of Fluoride, it makes me ill every time I eat it... I can't even drink city water anymore.

They put Carbonated Water, Sucrose, Glucose, Taurine, Sodium Citrate, Color Added, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, L-Carnitine, Caffeine, Sorbic Acid, Benzoic Acid, Niacinamide, Sodium Chloride, Glucuronolactone, Inositol, Guarana Seed, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Sucralose, Riboflavin, Maltodextrin and Cyancobalamin into Monster Energy drink.

So the main ingredient is water which may or may not have fluoride in it anyway. The second major ingredient is sugar (sucrose & glucose). The fourth main ingredient is citric acid (sodium citrate) which would give a sort of citrus tang to the drink in combination with the sugar.

The rest of the ingredients are really only trace amounts of various chemicals which I confess I don't know what they are really. They put fluoride in water? They put all sorts of chemicals in water and call them energy drinks.

[EDIT]I don't know if I made this point clearly: Energy drinks are mostly water; The water has to be drinking standard; Most beverage manufacturers purchase their water from the local water authority (as mains water) and that water may already contain fluoride if that is the policy of that local water authority. I am terrified of them now. Not just because of the damaging side effects (and there are several). Hey, everything in moderation, right?

My problem was watching my ex... Basically he had a history of mental illness (so there was already a marker). He was using... in Canada a decriminalized substance which in America is illegal so I will not bring it up, which would have been fine, except he was living off of energy drinks. We had just broken up and he took it really hard. For an entire week he "couldn't eat" so he just smoked and drank energy drinks.

The emotional and physical strain triggered psychloid psychosis, as well a mental disorder he'll have to be medicated for for the rest of his life. Albeit he could have gotten into a car accident and had the same thing occur. Any major strain on the body can be a trigger.

Regardless, those drinks freak me out now. Especially that one week could trigger enough physical strain if abused to cause that large a reaction (we all watched him snap... 3 days his pupils were dialated and he stopped making any sense, the one day he showed up at our buddies place where we all hang out with no car, in the middle of the country, wearing a pair of shorts and my shirt tucked into them, talking about crazy things I won't mention on a public forum).

Messing with your body chemistry with any large overuse of any artificial substance has its risks imo. Then again cola is socially accepted and also terrible for your teeth, stomach lining, etc. I think if you aren't abusing it or having it become a physical addiction, once in a while is fine (as an adult, I agree with you about the teenagers thing and energy drinks).

We've been teaching my 4 year old niece to "respect" things. Like the hot stove, or the cola, or the person. It's the idea that you have to understand what is appropriate and what is not with different foods, drinks, inanimate things, animals, and people (etc). The human mind isn't even fully formed until you're 25 (great, all downhill from here!), and your body doesn't stop forming until 32. The idea that at such a young stage in development people are guzzling chemicals like water is going to have really big affects in the future for them, there are consequences for those kinds of things.

    Compliments of the wonderful Warsimi!
