It depends on the crowd you are dealing with. Many companies will actually catch you on that when you use a cover letter, for instance. Other more "pretentious" customer's will not take you seriously if your grammar isn't pristine. It's silly but it does depend on the customers/employers you are trying to cater to. But you're right, most people don't care.
